JUNIOR A HURLERS: The Junior A hurlers recorded a comprehensive away victory over Kilteely-Dromkeen in the City East Intermediate Hurling League. A key factor was the stiff breeze, which Patrickswell survived in the first half and exploited fully in the second half.  The ‘Well made an excellent start and took a three point lead within five minutes from Eoin Harmon, Peter Harty and Cian Gorman. The hosts notched their first point, but Eoin Harmon and Gavin Carey established a 0-5 to 0-1 margin by the 10th minute. A trio of points from the accurate blade of Eoin Harmon placed Patrickswell 0-8 to 0-2 ahead by the 20th minute, but the home time equalised with six unanswered points in just six minutes. Thankfully, Eoin Harmon, Peter Harty and Cian Gorman allowed the visitors to reach half-time at 0-11 to 0-9 ahead.

The second half started with a brace of points from Kilteely-Dromkeen and they were only a point in arrears. David Woulfe, Cian Enright and Gavin Carey rattled three consecutive points in two minutes to open a 0-14 to 0-11 gap by the 40th minute. The home team’s next point was answered in style by a Gavin Carey goal and a Peter Harty point. Patrickswell were 1-15 to 0-12 ahead in the 45th minute. The game was decided as a contest with a second goal from Sam McNamara and a point from David Woulfe. There were ten minutes left and Patrickswell held a 2-17 to 0-14 lead. The visitors closed out the match with seven points in seven minutes (Cian Gorman 0-2, Cian Enright, Eoin Harmon, Conor Robinson, Peter Harty and Sam McNamara) to seal a convincing 2-24 to 0-16 win. The next match is against Caherline at home on Monday April 24 at 6.45pm.

SENIOR HURLERS: The Senior hurlers recorded their first win in the City Senior League with a comfortable home win over Kildimo-Pallaskenry. While the visitors led by 0-2 to 0-1, the games was effectively wrapped up by Patrickswell with a salvo of one goal and six points without reply between the 5th and 15th minute. The pace of scoring slowed and Patrickswell reached half-time with a lead of 1-10 to 0-3.

The second half contained a spell of five minutes where Patrickswell notched two goals and a point to Kildimo-Pallaskenry’s goal. The hosts were now 3-11 to 0-3 ahead in the 45th minute. Our visitors were competitive in the last quarter and the match ended 3-17 to 0-8.

JUNIOR A HURLERS: Patrickswell lost at home to Ballybricken Bohermore in the City East Intermediate Hurling League. The teams were inseparable at 1-5 to 0-8 at half-time, but Ballybricken Bohermore shaded the second half to win by 1-17 to 1-13. On Tuesday April 11, we host St. Patrick’s at 6.30pm.

SENIOR HURLERS: The Senior hurlers suffered defeat in the opening match of the City Senior League away to Na Piarsaigh. The Caherdavin men raced into a 1-4 to 0-0 lead after fifteen minutes, before Evan Fitzgerald and Calvin Carroll registered Patrickswell’s opening points. The Light Blues restored a six-point lead but the ‘Well had a flurry of four points in six minutes from Thomas O’Brien, Josh Considine, Jason Gillane and Patrick Kirby. Na Piarsaigh stemmed the tide with a fresh point, however Patrickswell closed the half with further points from Evan Fitzgerald and Jordan Higgins. The interval score was a small deficit of 1-6 to 0-8.

The second half began with Patrick Kirby’s brace of points cancelling out some Na Piarsaigh scores. However, the home team notched three points in three minutes to open a 1-11 to 0-10 advantage. The rate of scoring dropped off and Patrickswell added three points from Patrick Kirby, Jason Gillane and Jack Kelleher to reach the final quarter in arrears by 1-12 to 0-13. That was the end of Patrickswell’s revival as we failed to score for the next ten minutes and Na Piarsaigh struck seven consecutive points to establish an unassailable 1-19 to 0-13 lead. Gavin Carey scored a consolation goal in the 57th minute and Jack Kelleher claimed a late point, but Na Piarsaigh ran out 1-20 to 1-14 winners.

JUNIOR A HURLERS: Patrickswell were unlucky to lose away to Crecora in a pulsating City East Intermediate Hurling League contest. The game was delicately poised at 0-7 apiece after twenty minutes, but the ‘Well took the lead after a long ball confused the Crecora goalkeeper and Shane Hannon took the credit for tucking the ball home. The first half ended with Patrickswell ahead by 1-8 to 0-9.

Despite scoring the first point of the second half, Patrickswell were pressurised by six consecutive Crecora points in eight short minutes. The hosts were 0-15 to 1-9 ahead with twenty minutes to play. With a huge slice of good fortune, Darragh Ahern caught out the Crecora goalkeeper with a fifty yard lob. The teams were level and the next fifteen minutes witnessed an exchange of six points each. In the 60th minute, the score was 2-15 to 0-21 and both sides were pressing for a winner. The home team capitalised on a hesitation in the Patrickswell ranks and scored a devastating last minute goal, before adding an insurance point. The final score was a 1-22 to 2-15 reverse.
