INTERMEDIATE CAMOGIE: Our Intermediate camogie team won the Division Two Cup Final against Croagh Kilfinny. With the aid of a strong breeze, Patrickswell surged 1-10 to 0-2 ahead by half-time. There was a comeback in the second half by Croagh Kilfinny, but Patrickswell weathered the storm and secured a 1-13 to 1-8 triumph. Congratulations to the players and management.

SENIOR HURLERS: The Senior hurlers participated in the Kilmacud Crokes All-Ireland Sevens. In the group stages, Patrickswell lost the opener to Bennettsbridge, but rallied to beat Liam Mellows and Coolderry. In the quarter-final, we were pipped by Ballyhale Shamrocks.

UNDER 19 HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP: Patrickswell visit Askeaton on Thursday July 6 at 7.30pm in the U-19 Hurling Championship.

FUNDRAISER: Patrickswell’s Senior hurlers, in association with Milford Care Centre, are currently selling chocolate bars with Golden Tickets inside for €5. Milford Care Centre will receive 50% of the proceeds. If you get a golden ticket, you are in for a prize. The top prize is €500 cash, with other prizes to be announced. Prize winners will be revealed in Punch’s Bar on August 12.

CLUB LOTTO: The Club Lotto draw on Monday June 26 was not won. The numbers drawn were 3, 4, 29 and 32. The bonus number was 22. JUNIOR A HURLERS: Patrickswell were defeated by a strong Knockainey side in the County Intermediate Hurling League Final. It was a game of two halves, with the breeze having a major impact. Patrickswell started the match at a high tempo and struck six points in twelve minutes without reply from Cian Enright (0-2), Cian Fitzgerald, David Woulfe, Darragh Ahern and Josh Carey. Kieran Long’s goal opened a nine-point lead after 15 minutes. Despite Knockainey scoring a goal, Patrickswell were still ahead by 1-7 to 1-2 after twenty minutes. Patrickswell increased the lead to 1-10 to 1-3 with points from Eoin Harmon, Cian O’Gorman and Darragh Ahern. Knockainey responded with a second goal and another point to trim the deficit to three points. Just before half-time, Eoin Harmon popped up with a brace of points to put Patrickswell 1-12 to 2-4 ahead.

Knockainey played with the breeze in the second half, with a devastating effect. The South Men rattled off eight consecutive points to take a three-point lead at 2-12 to 1-12. Peter Harty’s point halted the charge, but another goal and two points were conceded shortly after. There were ten minutes left and the ‘Well trailed by 3-14 to 1-13. Despite points from Gavin Carey and Peter Harty, Knockainey were 3-17 to 1-15 ahead with a few minutes left. Cian Enright’s late goal was a consolation. It had been a great League campaign overall, but Knockainey emerged as 3-17 to 2-15 winners.

JUNIOR A HURLERS: The Junior A hurlers were crowned City East Intermediate Hurling champions after an epic victory over Caherline. The first fifteen minutes were keenly fought as Caherline held a narrow 1-4 to 0-6 lead. However, the East Men had built a five point advantage of 2-10 to 1-8 by the interval despite Kieran Long’s goal.

In the second half, Patrickswell sought to erode the Caherline lead. By the 45th minute, the teams were inseparable at 2-16 apiece after Kieran Long scored his second goal. Cian Enright struck a penalty to ensure extra time was required after the teams were level at 3-17 to 2-20.

The first period of extra time saw Caherline in the ascendancy. The ‘Well found themselves behind by three points at 2-25 to 3-19. Remarkably, Patrickswell stunned Caherline with two goals from Darragh Ahern and Josh Carey to seal at 5-22 to 2-28 victory. Congratulations to the team and management.

INTER-COUNTY HURLERS: Well done to the Limerick hurlers and Cian, Aaron & Diarmaid for delivering a superb Munster Championship win over Clare.

SENIOR HURLERS: The Senior hurlers were upset by Mungret in the City League semi-final. The first five minutes were nip and tuck as both teams scored three points each. The ‘Well dominated the next fifteen minutes to build a 1-8 to 0-5 lead. After increasing their lead to seven points at 1-10 to 0-6, Patrickswell were rattled by a salvo of one goal and three points from Mungret. Our opponents were just one point behind. The half ended with a brace of Patrickswell points and a 1-12 to 1-9 lead.

The second half began with Patrickswell largely in charge. Our four points were answered by a goal from Mungret. By the 40th minute, the ‘Well led by 1-16 to 2-9. The next ten minutes saw Mungret score their third goal and reduce the deficit to two points at 1-19 to 3-11. Amazingly, Patrickswell failed to score in the last ten minutes, while Mungret dominated the chances. The Red Men helped themselves to a fourth goal and five straight points to record a six-point win of 4-16 to 1-19.

JUNIOR A HURLERS: The Junior A hurlers faced a tough battle to overcome a dogged St. Patrick’s in the City East Intermediate League semi-final. While Cian Fitzgerald scored from long distance within 30 seconds, the first half was an energy-sapping contest in high temperatures. Cian Gorman, Eoin Harmon and Kieran Long scored points to put Patrickswell 1-3 to 0-2 ahead on 20 minutes. However, the Rhebogue men controlled the final phase with a goal and three points to Eoin Harmon’s solitary point. By half-time, Patrickswell trailed by 1-5 to 1-4.

At the start of the second half, Patrickswell were revived. Kieran Long’s goal was supplemented by two Cian Fitzgerald points. There were 40 minutes gone and the ‘Well led by 2-6 to 1-7. Eoin Harmon and Shane Quinlan traded points with St. Patrick’s across fifteen  minutes as the rate of scoring dropped significantly. It was the 55th minute and we held a two-point advantage of 2-8 to 1-9. As the game approached injury time, David Woulfe and Eoin Harmon increased the lead to three points at 2-10 to 1-10. St. Patrick’s sought a precious late goal, but Josh Carey put the game beyond doubt with a third goal. Patrickswell meet Caherline in the City East final.

INTER-COUNTY HURLERS: Congratulations to Limerick and Cian, Aaron & Diarmaid for reaching a Munster Championship final after an epic win over Cork.

SENIOR HURLERS: The Senior hurlers edged out neighbours Ballybrown in a hard fought City Senior League match. Patrick Kirby scored the opening point of the match, but Ballybrown went ahead with three consecutive points in ten minutes. By the 15th minute, the sides were level at 0-5 apiece (Patrick Kirby, John Kirby 0-2 and Jordan Higgins). Over the next ten minutes, Patrickswell crept ahead by 0-9 to 0-8 thanks to points from John Flynn, Calvin Carroll and Patrick Kirby 0-2. Just before half-time, Jordan Higgins struck the net and the ‘Well led by 1-9 to 0-9.

Patrickswell roared out of the traps at the beginning of the second half and notched four points from Patrick Kirby 0-2, Jack Kelleher and Evan Fitzgerald. We were 1-13 to 0-9 ahead and playing well. Ballybrown were resolute and replied with a goal and two points to slash the deficit to 1-13 to 1-11 with fifteen minutes to play. Patrick Kirby’s brace and Nigel Foley put the ‘Well 1-16 to 1-12 ahead with ten minutes left. There was a scoring flurry, but Ballybrown remained 1-18 to 1-15 behind with five minutes to go. Our neighbours then experienced a purple patch and equalised by the 60th minute. The game was in the balance, but Patrick Kirby held his nerve to claim two injury time frees. Patrickswell triumphed by 1-20 to 1-18.

JUNIOR A HURLERS: The Junior As recorded a comprehensive victory over Doon in the City East Intermediate League. The game began with Doon in charge and the East Men led by 0-5 to 0-2 after 15 minutes. The game turned when Patrickswell produced 1-8 in a rapid ten minute spell. Kieran Long’s goal was followed by points from David Woulfe, Thomas Nolan 0-2, Cian Fitzgerald, Cian Enright, Peter Harty, Eoin Harmon and Kieran Long. There was sufficient time for another Kieran Long goal as Patrickswell reached the interval ten points ahead at 2-11 to 0-7.

In the opening stages of the second half, Patrickswell went fifteen points clear at 3-15 to 0-9. Some substitutions freshened up the team and Patrickswell accrued five consecutive points in seven minutes from Cian Enright 0-3 and Shane Hannon 0-2. Doon were now adrift by twenty points at 3-20 to 0-9, but they scored a few consolation points. The final result was 3-23 to 0-13.

SENIOR HURLERS: The Senior hurlers survived a stiff test from Monaleen to win by a single point in the City League. Despite John Kirby cancelling out a Monaleen point within two minutes, the Reds surged ahead with a goal and six points without reply in seven minutes. Patrick Kirby scored a brace of points and Jack Kelleher struck a decisive goal and another point to narrow the deficit to 1-8 to 1-4 after twenty minutes. Monaleen increased their lead to six points, but Patrickswell rapidly scored five points in three minutes. The scoreline was now 1-10 to 1-9 in favour of our hosts. By half-time, Patrickswell had sneaked ahead by 1-12 to 1-11 with points from Patrick Kirby 0-2 and John Kirby.

John Kirby struck the opening point of the second half, but Monaleen replied immediately. For the next ten minutes, the home team failed to score while the ‘Well added four points from Patrick Kirby, Cian Fitzgerald, Evan Fitzgerald and Jason Gillane. The lead was five points at 1-17 to 1-12. The rate of scoring slowed and there were only four minutes left with Patrickswell ahead by 1-18 to 1-14. Monaleen struck two points and reached injury time at 1-18 to 1-16 behind. They searched for a goal, put could only manage a point. Patrickswell won a narrow match by 1-18 to 1-17.

JUNIOR A HURLERS: The Junior A hurlers had a productive week as they beat St. Patrick’s and Claughaun on the road.

The match against St. Patrick’s began in a competitive manner as the sides traded four points apiece in the first ten minutes (Sam McNamara, Kieran Long, Gavin Carey and Conor Robinson). The home team then scored four unanswered points in five minutes to lead by 0-8 to 0-4. However, Josh Carey’s well taken goal was supplemented with points from Sam McNamara, Kieran Long and Calvin Carroll. The half-time score was level at 1-7 to 0-10.

The second half began with an exchange of three points from each side (Sam McNamara 0-2 and Gavin Carey) before Patrickswell stunned the hosts with five points from Josh Carey, Billy Earls, Ian Kelleher, Conor Robinson 0-2 and a devastating goal from Jack Gorman. The ‘Well led by 2-15 to 0-13 with eight minutes left. St. Patrick’s caused a scare with a goal and two points, before Sam McNamara ensured a 2-16 to 1-15 win.

Against Claughaun, Patrickswell played into a stiff breeze in the first half. The ‘Well led by 0-3 to 0-1 after ten minutes through Eoin Harmon’s brace of frees and a Liam Fitzgerald point. Claughaun were in good form and reached the 20th minute level at 0-5 apiece. Patrickswell took control of the rest of the half and added a fine individual goal from Gavin Carey and points from Josh Carey, Eoin Harmon and Billy Earls. The interval score was 1-8 to 0-6.

The second half was relatively straightforward for Patrickswell as St. Patrick’s failed to score and the visitors helped themselves to an Eoin Harmon goal and seven points from Liam Fitzgerald, Eoin Harmon 0-3, Gavin Carey 0-2 and Peter Harty. The result was a 2-15 to 0-6 triumph.

SENIOR HURLERS: The Senior hurlers produced an impressive first half display to beat Mungret in the City Senior League. Patrickswell surged into a 0-14 to 0-1 lead within just 18 minutes to rattle our visitors. Patrick Kirby and Jack Kelleher scored four points each, while Nigel Foley, Calvin Carroll, Cian Gorman, Hugh Maher, Josh Considine and John Flynn added other points. Mungret slowed the tide of the scoring and recovered. By half-time, Josh Considine had added another two points, while Thomas O’Brien, Jack Kelleher and Nigel Foley also chipped in. The interval score was 0-19 to 0-5.

The first ten minutes of the second half were relatively even as Mungret shaded Patrickswell. Evan Fitzgerald, Jack Kelleher and Patrick Kirby allowed the ‘Well to still remain comfortable at 0-22 to 0-9. Mungret caused some discomfort with a surge of five consecutive points in three minutes. The visitors trailed by eight points with fifteen minutes left. Mungret continued to chip away at the deficit, but Jack Kelleher’s brace kept them six points behind at 0-24 to 0-18. There was no grandstand finale as Patrick Kirby and Nigel Foley secured a 0-26 to 0-18 win. Patrickswell’s next match is scheduled for Saturday May 6 away to Monaleen at 3.30pm.
