SENIOR HURLERS: Patrickswell were defeated by Na Piarsaigh in their third Championship match. Despite Mark Carmody scoring the opening point in the first minute, the ‘Well were under the cosh almost immediately. By the 15th minute, Na Piarsaigh led 1-4 to 0-2 by virtue of Peter Casey’s goal. Diarmaid Byrnes slowed the surge with a point, but the next ten minutes were dominated by Na Piarsaigh’s haul of nine points in contrast to a brace of points from Patrickswell. As the match approached half-time, Aaron Gillane notched a free to reduce the deficit to 1-13 to 0-6.

The second half began with Patrickswell on the defensive. Na Piarsaigh struck three points in four minutes before Aaron Gillane intervened with another free. As the rate of scoring slowed down, Na Piarsaigh accrue three consecutive points in ten minutes before a Diarmaid Byrnes point. There was thirteen minutes left and Patrickswell were fourteen points behind at 1-19 to 0-8. The remainder of the match was characterised by four points each (Thomas O’Brien, Mark Carmody, Aaron Gillane and Diarmaid Byrnes). The Caherdavin side were eventual 1-23 to 0-12 winners. The fourth match of the group is against Doon on Saturday September 10 at 6pm in Kilmallock.

JUNIOR A HURLERS: Our Junior A hurlers maintained a 100% record with a thrilling win over Tournafulla. The early stages were tough as Tournafulla answered Bryan Fitzgerald’s opening point with a barrage of a goal and two points. Bryan Fitzgerald’s goal brought Patrickswell back into contention, but Tournafulla’s accrual of five points exceeded our three points from David Woulfe, Jamie Dillon and Eoin Harmon. There was fifteen minutes gone and Patrickswell trailed by 1-7 to 1-4. Cian Gorman and Bryan Fitzgerald narrowed the gap to a single point before our opponents increased their lead to four points with three straight points. Once again, Patrickswell responded with a salvo of three points from Eoin Harmon 0-2 and Adam Carrig. The last point of the first half was from Tournafulla and they led by 1-11 to 1-9.

The second half did not start positively. Tournafulla scored two more points and plundered their second goal. Despite Cian Gorman’s point, the arrears grew to six points at 2-13 to 1-10. However, there was no collapse from Patrickswell. The next ten minutes yielded one goal and four points to Tournafulla’s solitary point. The scores were now deadlocked at 2-14 apiece with fifteen minutes left. The Patrickswell momentum was irrepressible and Tournafulla faded. Eoin Harmon’s haul of three points and Jamie Dillon’s score ensured at 2-18 to 2-15 triumph. The next match is against Garryspillane on Sunday September 11 at 6pm in Caherconlish.

CLUB LOTTO: The Club Lotto draw on Monday August 29 was not won. The numbers drawn were 3, 7, 17 and 22. The bonus number was 15. JUNIOR A HURLERS: Patrickswell meet Tournafulla in Ballingarry on Thursday September 1 at 6.00pm.

JUNIOR B HURLERS: The Junior B hurlers produced a late surge to defeat hosts Ballybrown in the City Championship. The early scoring was slow as Ballybrown held a 0-3 to 0-1 lead after fifteen minutes. Patrickswell went ahead with an Aidan Scanlon goal that was immediately followed by a Pa Dundon point. The scoring rate was increasing and a brace of Ballybrown points brought the sides level at 1-2 to 0-5 by the 17th minute. Aidan Scanlon’s second goal put some daylight between the teams and four points from Bryan Fitzgerald, William O’Dea and Sam McNamara (0-2) kept Patrickswell narrowly ahead at 2-6 to 0-11 at the break.

The second half began with a purple patch for Ballybrown as their haul of a goal and three points was enough to suppress Barry Foley’s point. By the 40th minute, Patrickswell were 2-7 to 1-14 behind. The next seven minutes saw a flurry of four points apiece (Barry Foley, William O’Dea and Sam McNamara 0-2) as Patrickswell stayed in contention. There were ten minutes left and the deficit remained four points at 1-18 to 2-11. Patrickswell were undaunted and rattled the hosts with four consecutive points in six minutes to equalise at 2-15 to 1-18 (two points each from Bryan Fitzgerald and Sam McNamara). There was a grandstand finale in store and the Patrickswell blitz continued. Ballybrown were prevented from scoring and placed on the back foot, while the ‘Well accrued another four unanswered points (William O’Dea, Paul O’Grady, Bryan Fitzgerald and Sam McNamara). The final result was a 2-19 to 1-18 triumph.

CLUB LOTTO: The Club Lotto draw on Monday August 22 was not won. The numbers drawn were 1, 7, 12 and 18. The bonus number was 29. The €100 Lucky Dip was won by Jimmy Cleary and the €20 prizes were claimed by Robert Graham, Claire Ahern, Kiera Quinn, Leona O’Reilly and Shauna Gavin. This week’s jackpot is €17,800.

HOMECOMING: Patrickswell GAA Club are hosting an All-Ireland Championship Homecoming on Saturday August 27. The event will commence at 7.30pm at our clubhouse. Patrickswell’s All-Ireland winners Cian Lynch, Diarmaid Byrnes and Aaron Gillane will be joined by other members of the Limerick team.

The Liam MacCarthy Cup will be present and there will be ample opportunity for photographs and autographs.

Our evening will include interviews with the players by MC Petula Martyn of RTE, DJ Richie Moloney playing the music and hot food by DB Trailblazers. We will also launch our Club Development Plan. Everyone is most welcome to attend – no matter which club or county!

JUNIOR B HURLERS: The Junior B hurlers had to settle for another draw after Kildimo-Pallaskenry launched a late comeback. Sam McNamara’s first point cancelled out our visitors’ opener, but Patrickswell were rocked by a 8th minute goal. Thankfully there were consecutive points from Barry Foley, William O’Dea and Sam McNamara to level to scores at 0-4 to 1-1 by the 15th minute. The next ten minutes were level pegging as both teams scored four points each. Kildimo-Pallaskenry took the lead with their second goal before Sam McNamara and Barry Foley reduced the arrears to 2-6 to 0-10 at the interval.

Patrickswell were stronger in the opening stages of the second half and equalised at 0-15 to 2-9 by the 40th minute. Barry Foley grabbed a trio of points and Bryan Fitzgerald & William O’Dea chipped in also. Patrickswell took charge with a Bryan Fitzgerald goal and fresh points from Barry Foley and Sam McNamara in a devastating three-minute spell, but Kildimo-Pallaskenry rallied with four straight points in five minutes. Patrickswell were barely ahead by 1-17 to 2-13 with five minutes of normal time left. The teams traded points before the away team stunned the hosts with their third goal. Patrickswell entered stoppage time with a two-point deficit. A further trade of points kept the ‘Well 3-15 to 1-19 behind with time running out fast. Barry Foley asked for a time check before slotting over a late free point. In the dying moments, Patrickswell plotted a final assault. Sam McNamara rattled the post with a fierce shot, before he recovered the sliotar again and equalised with an tight angled point. The final score was 1-21 to 3-15.

CLUB LOTTO: The Club Lotto draw on Monday August 8 was not won. The numbers drawn were 6, 12, 16 and 25. The bonus number was 17. SENIOR HURLERS: The Senior hurlers overcame Ahane in a high-scoring Championship match at Caherconlish. For the first fifteen minutes, the teams traded five points apiece (Diarmaid Byrnes 0-2, Patrick Kirby 0-2 and Jordan Higgins) before Jack Kelleher notched two points to build a 0-7 to 0-5 advantage. Ahane had a flurry of three points in three minutes, but the ‘Well replied with three points via Aaron Gillane, Seanie O’Brien and Mark Carmody. By the 25th minute, Patrickswell were ahead by 0-10 to 0-8. Jordan Higgins’ goal before the interval was a key moment as John O’Meara’s men reached half-time at 1-12 to 0-10 ahead.

The second half was barely a minute old when Jordan Higgins’ second goal established an eight-point lead. Over the next ten minutes, the sides traded three points each. The 40th minute score was 2-15 to 0-13. Darragh Ahern’s point increased the lead to nine points, but Ahane accrued another three points in ten minutes. In the 50th minute  Patrickswell led by 2-16 to 0-16. We closed out the match with points from Seanie O’Brien, Patrick Kirby and Calvin Carroll to claim a 2-19 to 0-20 win.

JUNIOR A HURLERS: Patrickswell maintained its 100% record with a hard-fought win against Kilteely Dromkeen. Our opponents scored two points in the first three minutes, before Patrickswell’s reply of five points in eight minutes (Eoin Harmon 0-2, Gavin Carey, Cian O’Gorman and Jamie Dillon). Kilteely responded with two points, but Cian O’Gorman’s goal and Eoin Harmon’s point cemented a 1-6 to 0-4 lead after 15 minutes. The East men dominated the latter stages of the first half and their haul of 1-4 to Patrickswell’s two points meant that we were inseparable at 1-8 each.

In the opening ten minutes of the second half, the teams were level pegging as three more points extra were accrued. Patrickswell had an important purple patch of five points in five minutes from Jamie Dillon 0-2, Eoin Harmon 0-2 and David Woulfe. The tide seemed to have turned, but Kilteely Dromkeen scored a second goal to reduce the deficit to 1-16 to 2-11. Patrickswell edged the next ten minutes as Jamie Dillon stole a second goal and Eoin Harmon contributed four points. By the 55th minute, the margin was 2-20 to 2-12. However the lead was never fully secured and Kilteely Dromkeen bossed the last seven minutes with a haul of 1-4 to Jamie Dillon’s solitary point. Thankfully the ‘Well held firm to win by 2-21 to 3-16.

JUNIOR B HURLERS: The Junior B hurlers hung on for a draw against Monaleen in a game they might have won, but could have lost. Patrickswell roared out of the traps and scored seven points in the first ten minutes. While the rate of scoring slowed down, the ‘Well were comfortably ahead by 0-13 to 0-6 at half-time.

By the 45th minute, Patrickswell had a seemingly unassailable 0-17 to 0-8 lead. However Monaleen scored a goal to trim the deficit to six points. Barry Foley’s point was met with three points in three minutes from Monaleen, while Aidan Scanlon’s point in the 50th minute was countered by five points in succession. As Monaleen pushed for a winner, the clock ran out and the teams settled for a 0-19 to 1-16 draw.

CLUB LOTTO: The Club Lotto draw on Tuesday August 2 was not won. The numbers drawn were 3, 5, 16 and 29. The bonus number was 27. SENIOR HURLERS: The Senior Hurlers began their Championship campaign with a defeat against Kilmallock at rain-soaked Newcastle West. Patrickswell made a lightning start when Thomas O’Brien scored a goal within thirty seconds and Jordan Higgins rifled a clinical second goal in the fifth minute. Kilmallock began to edge into the match and the ‘Well led by 2-2 to 0-2 in the 10th minute. The next ten minutes were barren for Patrickswell as the Balbec notched four points in succession to slash the deficit to 2-2 to 0-6. Aaron Gillane’s point in the 20th minute led to another lean spell and Kilmallock capitalised with six unanswered points to lead by 0-12 to 2-3 at the interval.

The second half started on a positive note with a Patrick Kirby point; however Patrickswell failed to score for another thirteen minutes and Kilmallock added a goal and five points. There were fifteen minutes left and Patrickswell were behind by ten points at 1-17 to 2-4. Diarmaid Byrnes’ free was replied by three points, while Aaron Gillane’s point was met with Kilmallock’s second goal. Patrick Kirby’s point prompted another three points from our opponents. There were five minutes left and the deficit was 2-23 to 2-7. Diarmaid Byrnes and Patrick Kirby scored two consolation points to round off a 2-23 to 2-9 defeat. The next match is on Saturday August 6 at 7pm against Ahane in Caherconlish.

JUNIOR A HURLERS: Patrickswell defeated Old Christians in the first match of the championship. After fifteen minutes, the teams were inseparable at four points apiece (Cian Enright 0-3 and Jonathan McMahon). The ‘Well took the lead with three consecutive points. Following that, there was a period where both teams exchanged three points each. By the 25th minute, Patrickswell were 0-10 to 0-7 ahead. Old Christians scored two points to trim the deficit to a single point before Adam Carrig scored the last point of the first half to make it 0-11 to 0-9.

While Old Christians scored the first point of the second half, they were rattled by Gavin Carey’s goal and three points from Eoin Harmon 0-2 and Darragh Ahern. With 15 minutes left to play, Patrickswell led by 1-14 to 0-10. Old Christians had the better of the next fifteen minutes, but they only managed to narrow the gap to five points by the 60th minute at 1-16 to 0-14. Patrickswell closed the match with four points in injury time from Eoin Harmon, Gavin Carey, Darragh Ahern and Cian Enright. The final score was 1-20 to 0-14. The next match is on Sunday 7th August at 2pm in Fedamore against Kilteely Dromkeen.

JUNIOR HURLERS: Patrickswell meet Old Christians on Sunday July 31 in Mungret at 7pm. Once again, tickets must be bought in advance on universe.com. The prices are the same as the Senior match.

INTER-COUNTY HURLERS: Congratulations to Limerick for winning a fourth All-Ireland championship in five years and securing a three in a row. We are delighted for Diarmaid, Aaron and Cian. Diarmaid was also honoured as Sunday Game’s Player of the Year. The club was also thrilled to host the “Up For The Match” programme for RTE.

UNDER 19 HURLERS: The U-19 hurlers bowed out of the Premier Hurling Championship after an entertaining match at Newcastle West. The home team scored the first point of the match, but Patrickswell responded with three points from Eoin Harmon, Paddy Gardiner and John Kirby within three minutes. The home team knocked Patrickswell backwards with a goal and three points; however the ‘Well responded with a goal from John Kirby and points from Pa Kiely and Eoin Harmon. The scoreline after only fifteen minutes was an advantage of 1-5 to 1-4. Unfortunately Newcastle West dominated the remainder of the first half and led by 2-9 to 1-7 at the interval.

Patrickswell scored the first point of the second half, but found themselves seven points adrift when the home side struck their third goal. There was no capitulation by the ‘Well as the visitors notched a goal and four points in just five minutes (John Kirby goal, Eoin Harmon 0-2 and Cian Gorman 0-2). With twenty minutes left, there was a real chance of victory at just 3-10 to 2-12 behind. The hosts slammed to door firmly shut with a spell of two goals and seven points to Patrickswell’s three points. Johnny Murray’s consolation goal was the last score in a 5-17 to 3-15 reverse.

UNDER 19 HURLERS: The U-19 hurlers suffered defeat in their first Premier Hurling Championship match at Mungret. The contest was finely balanced in the opening five minutes as both teams recorded three points apiece. Patrickswell’s scores were all Eoin Harmon frees. Unfortunately the home side were too strong and they amassed one goal and nine points without reply in twenty minutes. Eoin Harmon’s fourth free arrived in the closing minute of the half and Patrickswell trailed by 1-12 to 0-4 at the break.

The second half began with Mungret’s second goal, but Patrickswell stemmed the tide. Eoin Harmon struck a fifth free and John Kirby recorded a point to reduce the arrears to 2-12 to 0-6 in the 40th minute. The next ten minutes were level pegging as both teams notched another three points each. Eoin Harmon chipped in with two more frees and John Kirby scored another. There were ten minutes left and the Reds led by 2-15 to 0-9. Four points in six minutes put Mungret sixteen points clear, before the match concluded with two points each (John Kirby and Paddy Gardiner). The final result was 2-21 to 0-11.

INTER-COUNTY HURLERS: Congratulations to Limerick’s Senior Hurlers for narrowly dispatching Galway in the All-Ireland semi-final. We are especially proud of Aaron, Diarmaid and Cian.
