GREYHOUND RACING NIGHT: Patrickswell GAA and Camogie Clubs are hosting a “Night at the Dogs” this weekend to help raise funds for the development of playing facilities at Páirc Antóin O’Briain. The development will include the repositioning and levelling of the existing pitch, the addition of a training area and the provision of a 2 metre wide walking track around the perimeter of the pitch.

The fundraising event will be held this Saturday March 23 at the Limerick Greyhound Stadium and coincides with the first round of the Con & Annie Kirby Memorial, which is one of the major nights in the greyhound calendar in Limerick.

Admission tickets cost €10 and are currently available online. Tickets are also available in a number of local businesses. Prizes include a personal training session with Hurler of the Year Aaron Gillane, a €250 voucher for the Woodlands House Hotel & Spa and a €100 Crescent Shopping Centre Voucher.

We would also like to offer the opportunity to promote businesses through a series of electronic adverts that will be played on screens throughout the venue on the night. These adverts will also be promoted on the club’s social media sites. The cost of the adverts is Full screen €100 and Half screen €50. Please contact any of the club’s committee for details.

CLUB LOTTO: The Club Lotto draw on Monday March 11 was not won. The numbers drawn were 10, 11, 22 and 25. The bonus number was 5. CAMOGIE MEDALS PRESENTATION: On Saturday March 2nd in the Cu Chulainn Bar and Restaurant, a Camogie Medal Presentation night will commence at 8.45pm for the Patrickswell Camogie County Intermediate League champions 2023 and County Junior Championship Champions 2023. FITZGIBBON CUP TRIUMPH: Congratulations to Jason Gillane, who won the Fitzgibbon Cup with Mary Immaculate College by beating University of Limerick. It was a magnificent achievement for Jason and fully deserved.

CELEBRATION NIGHT: Our Celebration Night was a resounding success, with nearly 300 guests in attendance. TJ Ryan was the host of the evening, as he welcomed Cian, Diarmaid and Aaron to the event that recognised their unprecedented success as PWC Hurlers of the Year from 2021, 2022 and 2023.

The first award of the night was a Distinguished Service Award for our loyal sponsors at Duggan Systems Limited. Immediately afterwards, Muirne Bennis won Club Person of the Year 2023 for her unwavering support of Irish culture, the Irish language and Scor. It was richly deserved.

Aileen Fitzsimons won the portrait raffle and then TJ Ryan hosted a Questions & Answers session with Limerick manager John Kiely and County Board chairperson Seamus McNamara. This built up towards the keynote interview session with Aaron Gillane, Cian Lynch and Diarmaid Byrnes.

The panel discussion brought together a rich variety of hurling experts. Cyril Farrell of Galway hurling fame was joined by Richie Bennis, Ger Hegarty and Cork’s Jamie Wall. The panel were quizzed on a wide range of topics by TJ Ryan, before Marty Morrissey dropped in for the final fifteen minutes. The final portion of the official ceremonies was the auction of the signed PWC Hurler of the Year special edition jersey. John O’Connell ran this auction with great pomp and the jersey fetched €2,050.

Overall, the club was thrilled with how the night unfolded. A special thanks was given by Chairperson Raymond Fitzgerald to the organising committee of John McDermott, Denver Morrissey, Declan O’Grady and Des Foley.

FIELD DEVELOPMENT: There is a Local Consultation Open Night about the new Field Development at the clubhouse on Monday January 29 from 7.30pm to 9.00pm. Club members and neighbours are most welcome to drop in and give their views!

DILLON QUIRKE FOUNDATION HEART CHECK: We are grateful to the Dillon Quirke Foundation for providing heart check-ups to our young players. The appointments were fully booked and dozens of children availed of the check-ups.  It was a very important event for the club. Many thanks to the medical health professionals and administrators who were present at the clubhouse.
