Club Notes 2016

22nd December 2016

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING: The 2016 Club AGM took place at the clubhouse in front of a respectable attendance. The meeting opened with the Secretary’s Report delivered by Martin Ryan. The Secretary ran through the various competitions that Patrickswell had entered. The major success was naturally the Senior Hurlers’ victory in the County Championship, which ended a 13-year wait for the Daly Cup.

Elsewhere, the Senior Hurlers came within minutes of claiming the County League and City Championship double against Na Piarsaigh, when the respective finals were rolled into a single match. Unfortunately, the Caherdavin men finished strongly and claimed the trophies. The Junior A Hurlers were unluckily pipped on “scoring difference” in both the City and County competitions, while the Under 21 Hurlers did not progress from their pool. Another positive aspect of the season was the Minor Championship, which saw Patrickswell reach the County semi-final.

The Secretary also congratulated every Patrickswell player who represented Limerick. He thanked Duggan Systems as chief sponsors, Tommy Leahy West Auto Electrical as Golf Classic sponsors, everyone that supported the club’s events and compiled the County Final Programme.

The Treasurer’s Report by Seamus O’Riordan took the members through the Financial Statements for the year ending 31st October 2016. The members were satisfied with the state of affairs. Seamus thanked the Finance Committee and his fellow officers for their support throughout the year.

The keynote speech was Kieran Carroll’s Chairman’s Address. It was a bittersweet year as the club reclaimed the Daly Cup in great style, but was tinged with sadness at the loss of stalwarts like Gerry and Peter Bennis. Kieran remembered everyone who had passed away in the year, especially the Enright family. The Chairman thanked his fellow officers for their support and enthusiasm throughout the past year. He acknowledged the land acquisitions that had been finalised during the year. The objective is to improve our infrastructure for generations to come.

2016 saw Patrickswell return to its very best on the pitch. The initial groundwork had been laid in the disappointment of the 2015 County Final defeat. Gary Kirby was able to discover the “winning formula” and deliver the Daly Cup to the village. Kieran complimented the players and hoped that 2016 would be a springboard to greater success. He thanked the Juvenile Club and Patrickswell National School for the great foundations that they lay for the adult club. Camogie and Scór are other great outlets for the community and there is an excellent relationship over time. He thanked all members, supporters and sponsors for their continued support.

The floor was then handed over to a number of speakers. Fr. Mike Cussen praised the community spirit. While taking part was the most important feature, he acknowledged that it’s always nice to win silverware. PJ O’Grady praised the work of the Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. His goal was to reach a 20th Senior County Title and stand alone at the top of the Roll of Honour. PJ was thrilled with the acquisition of land, but cautioned that great commitment would be required from everyone to make a success of the project. Gary Kirby thanked his fellow management team – Declan Fitzgerald, Ross Corbett and the local contingent of Darragh Bennis & John O’Brien. He urged the players to keep working hard as other clubs will hope to knock Patrickswell off its perch. There is no room for complacency or resting on our laurels. Monsignor Lane paid tribute to the Daly Cup victory and remembered those who had died.

SEASON TICKET 2017: The Limerick 2017 Season Ticket is now available from the County Board or the club. The price of €100 includes entrance to all County Board club matches (not City Board), an option to purchase an All-Ireland Hurling Final ticket and discounts for a number of companies.

NATIONAL CLUB DRAW: The GAA National Club Draw takes place in March 2017. There are 14 superb prizes and tickets cost €10 each. These are available from the club. All funds are retained locally by Patrickswell GAA Club.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR: The Club would like to wish all its members and supporters a Merry Christmas and prosperous New Year in 2017.

SENIOR HURLERS: The Senior hurlers suffered an agonising late defeat to Na Piarsaigh in the County Hurling League & City Championship Final. Na Piarsaigh started at a high tempo and led by 0-4 to 0-1 after ten minutes. Kevin O’Brien was the first name on the scoreboard for Patrickswell. The remainder of the first half was extremely even. Aaron Gillane struck two points, while Peter Harty, John Flynn and Barry Foley chipped in with a point each. At the interval, the Caherdavin men held a 0-9 to 0-6 lead.

The second half started with a scorching Aaron Gillane goal within a minute. The scores were level and the battle was on. Na Piarsaigh managed to nudge ahead by 0-13 to 1-7 with fifteen minutes left. However Patrickswell produced a quartet of points by Aaron Gillane (0-2), Peter Harty and Lar Considine to establish a 1-11 to 0-13 lead with ten minutes left. Na Piarsaigh quickly equalised, but they appeared to be finally sunk by a Peter Harty goal and Diarmaid Byrnes point. A further two points built a 2-14 to 0-15 advantage for Patrickswell with five minutes on the clock. The trophies seemed destined for Patrickswell. Na Piarsaigh scored another point before they notched a clever goal from a free that caught the ‘Well off guard. There was a grandstand finale as injury time approached. Patrickswell held a one-point lead at 2-14 to 1-16. Unfortunately Na Piarsaigh were first to the breaking balls and produced another two points to win the match by 1-18 to 2-14. Hard luck to the players and management.

DECEASED MEMBERS MASS: The Mass for deceased members of Patrickswell GAA Club takes place on Sunday December 18 at 11.30am.

SENIOR HURLERS: The County League and City Championship Final against Na Piarsaigh could not be played over the weekend, due to dense fog in Mungret. The match has been refixed for Sunday December 4.

SCÓR NA nÓG: Our Set Dancers were crowned County Champions for a third consecutive year in Caherconlish. The team was Emma Ryan, Linsey Senior, Paul Lynch, Laurence Tuohy, Conor Keane, Roisin O’Brien, Kelsey O’Shea and Jack Foley. The Munster semi-final takes place in Cashel on Sunday 11 December.

GERRY BENNIS R.I.P.: The club and county were devastated to receive news of the death of Patrickswell GAA President Gerry Bennis.

Gerry had served Patrickswell as a player, Chairman, Secretary and President over a period of fifty years. He was also Chairman of Limerick County Board and held various positions with Limerick and Munster Council. In addition, he was an integral part of the local Scór, Club Lotto and County Development Draw.

Our sincere condolences to the Bennis family for their loss. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

SENIOR HURLERS: The Senior hurlers suffered late heartbreak in the Munster Championship semi-final against Glen Rovers. Patrickswell made a bright start as Diarmaid Byrnes, Aaron Gillane and Thomas O’Brien opened a 0-3 to 0-0 lead. Glen Rovers settled into their rhythm after a large number of wides and closed the gap with two consecutive points.

Aaron Gillane was in excellent form as he added two fresh points, before Jack Kelleher struck a superb long-distance effort to open up a 0-6 to 0-3 advantage with 25 minutes gone. The remainder of the first half was evenly balanced as Aaron Gillane notched Patrickswell’s seventh point to reach the interval at 0-7 to 0-4 ahead.

The second half saw a resurgence by Glen Rovers. The Cork champions scored the opening point of the second half, but this was quickly cancelled out by Aaron Gillane. However, they claimed three unanswered points to draw level at 0-8 apiece. The game was now an epic tussle between two equal teams. Aaron Gillane restored the lead for a few minutes, although Glen Rovers equalised again. With twenty minutes remaining on the clock, the game was deadlocked at 0-9.

Patrickswell launched another surge and were rewarded with two points from Cian Lynch and Thomas O’Brien. Glen Rovers struck a point before Diarmaid Byrnes reopened the two point margin at 0-12 to 0-10. Once again, the Cork side trimmed the deficit to a single point. There was a moment of magic when Kevin O’Brien nailed a beautiful point while off-balance on the sideline. The omens looked positive at 0-13 to 0-11 ahead with ten minutes left.

Glen Rovers showed incredible resilience to gather themselves and drive forward. They punished the ‘Well with four devastating points that altered the outcome. The travelling support were ecstatic as the pendulum swung in their favour. Patrickswell were 0-15 to 0-13 behind on the cusp of injury time. When awarded a late free, Patrickswell had the choice of a point or a goal. The point was secured and the home fans prayed for a breaking ball to equalise. However, Glen Rovers cleared their lines and won by 0-15 to 0-14. Hard luck to the players and management. It was a superb season that was capped by the Daly Cup.

SENIOR HURLERS: This week’s marquee event is the Munster Championship semi-final against Glen Rovers of Cork. The match takes place on Sunday November 6 at 3.30pm in the Gaelic Grounds. Please show your support in the same numbers as the County Final.

There was a wonderful turnout in the village for the parade of the Daly Cup from the shrine to the clubhouse. The speeches were also memorable and shows the impact that winning the County title had on the community.

CAMOGIE: The Camogie Minor Championship versus Monaleen was postponed and will be re-fixed for the weekend of November 4.

SENIOR HURLERS: Patrickswell ended a thirteen year wait for the Daly Cup with a comprehensive County Final victory over neighbours Ballybrown. The ‘Well began at a busy pace and scored two unanswered points in the opening exchanges. Ballybrown settled into their stride and managed to equalise at 0-2 apiece. However, Gary Kirby’s men were in a ruthless mood when they added four consecutive points to take a 0-6 to 0-2 lead. Afterwards, Lar Considine surged forward and played an unselfish square ball to the unmarked Kevin O’Brien. The Patrickswell forward struck a fine goal to open up a seven-point margin at 1-6 to 0-2. The remainder of the first half was relatively balanced as Ballybrown stemmed the tide. At the interval, the ‘Well commanded a 1-10 to 0-5 advantage.

The second half witnessed a virtuoso display of hurling from Patrickswell. Seanie O’Brien and Diarmaid Byrnes scored early points to put their club 1-12 to 0-6 ahead. Ballybrown were stunned by a passage of seven consecutive Patrickswell points that increased the lead to sixteen points at 1-19 to 0-6. While Ballybrown managed a consolation goal to reduce the arrears to 1-21 to 1-7, Patrickswell closed out the match with another flurry of five points (Aaron Gillane 0-2, Diarmaid Byrnes 0-2 and Barry Foley). The final whistle prompted great celebrations and a 1-26 to 1-7 triumph. Thomas O’Brien held aloft the Daly Cup and Cian Lynch was awarded Man of the Match on a special day. Congratulations to the players and management on a magnificent campaign.

CAMOGIE: The Minor Camogie team are at home on Sunday October 30 at 11am against Monaleen in the third round of the Championship. The U-13 girls lost the Plate final; however it had been a great year at U-12 and U-13 level.

Many thanks to everyone who helped with the face painting prior to the County Final. There was a great atmosphere and lots of children attended.

SENIOR HURLERS: All roads lead to Pairc na nGael on Sunday October 23 as parish neighbours Patrickswell and Ballybrown face off in the County Championship Final at 3.30pm. Please make a huge effort to cheer and sing for the ‘Well on Sunday. It’s important to the players on the pitch.

MINOR HURLERS: The Minor hurlers suffered a late defeat in the Premier Championship semi-final against Kilmallock. Patrickswell made a flying start with an early goal and point within three minutes of the throw-in. However, the Balbec settled themselves and produced a devastating flurry of 1-5 without reply to lead by 1-6 to 1-2 after twenty minutes. The ‘Well recovered in the latter stages of the first half and produced three consecutive points to trail by just 1-6 to 1-5 at half-time.

The second half began in a very competitive manner. Each team scored three points within ten minutes to leave the score at 1-9 to 1-8 in Kilmallock’s favour. The crowd were enthralled and the game was impossible to call. At one stage, Kilmallock had nudged 1-11 to 1-9 ahead; however Patrickswell restored parity on the scoreboard with two excellent points. There were five nervous minutes remaining. Unfortunately, the Balbec boys were economical with their chances and held firm to win by 1-13 to 1-11. Hard luck to the players and management.

UNDER 13 HURLERS: The U-13 hurlers were defeated by Monaleen and bow out of the League semi-final.

CAMOGIE: The Minor ladies were defeated by Murroe-Boher in the County Championship. Patrickswell led by a point early in the second half, but could not prevent a surge by their opponents. The third round fixture is scheduled for Sunday October 23 against Monaleen.

PARISH LEAGUE: The Parish League was a great success, with approximately 100 children in attendance. There was a great display of skill from U6 to U10 boys and girls. Many thanks to O’Brien’s Pharmacy for sponsoring the event and to Diarmaid Byrnes, Cian Lynch and Chelsea McCarthy for presenting the trophies.

SENIOR HURLERS: Patrickswell will face parish neighbours Ballybrown in the County Championship Final on Sunday October 23 at 3.30pm. Please support the team with colour and cheering on the big day.

If you would like to show your support for the team by becoming a “Well Wisher” for €25 and get your name in the programme for the county final, please contact any committee member before Monday evening.

MINOR HURLERS: The Minor hurlers are pencilled to meet Kilmallock for the Premier semi-final on Saturday October 15 in Bruff at 3.30pm.

UNDER 13 HURLERS: Patrickswell welcome Monaleen in the U-13 League semi-final on Saturday October 15 at 3.30pm.

PARISH LEAGUE: The Parish League takes place on Sunday October 16 at 11.30am. This competition is the traditional finale to the season. It’s the end of all the youngsters’ hard work through out the year.

CAMOGIE: The second round of the Minor Championship is against Murroe on Sunday October 16 at noon. The U-13 side are into the Shield Final which is provisionally fixed for Saturday October 22 but opposition and date are yet to be confirmed.

SENIOR HURLERS: The Senior hurlers produced a determined and gritty performance to edge past Kilmallock in the County Championship semi-final. Diarmaid Byrnes scored the opening point of the match, but Kilmallock were quickly in their stride with three consecutive points to establish a 0-3 to 0-1 lead. Patrickswell equalised almost immediately and the game proceeded as a very balanced contest. With twenty minutes on the clock, Patrickswell held a narrow 0-7 to 0-6 lead. There was a dramatic moment when a long-range Kilmallock free evaded the Patrickswell defence and sailed into the net. Kilmallock were leading by two points and the momentum appeared to swing. An exchange of points saw the Balbec at 1-8 to 0-9 ahead. As half-time approached, Kevin O’Brien gambled on a Kilmallock defender misjudging a high ball. His judgment was correct as O’Brien collected the sliotar and surged forward to bury a lovely goal. The half-time score was 1-9 to 1-8 in favour of the ‘Well.

The second half began in a very competitive and tight manner. Kilmallock equalised with a point, but Seanie and Tom O’Brien increased the lead to 1-11 to 1-9. Kilmallock reacted strongly and reeled off three straight points to hit the front at 1-12 to 1-11. The game was on a knife-edge as veteran star Barry Foley restored parity with fifteen minutes left. While Diarmaid Byrnes and Lar Considine struck points, Patrickswell could not shake off Kilmallock. The score was level at 1-14 apiece with ten minutes remaining. Patrickswell roused themselves for one last surge and were rewarded with a spree of points for Aaron Gillane, Cian Lynch, Barry Foley and Tom O’Brien. There was now daylight between the teams at 1-18 to 1-14. Kilmallock needed the killer goal and there was plenty of injury time, but Patrickswell held solid for a 1-19 to 1-15 triumph.

MINOR HURLERS: The Minor hurlers guaranteed their place in the County semi-final with a convincing victory over Kilmallock. Patrickswell started at a high tempo and were 1-6 to 0-2 ahead after fifteen minutes. Kilmallock had a speedy purple patch and plundered 1-2 without reply to close the gap at 1-6 to 1-4. The remainder of the first half was balanced as the ‘Well reached the interval at 1-8 to 1-5 ahead.

The second half started with both teams cancelling each other out with an exchange of three points apiece. With fifteen minutes on the clock, Patrickswell led by 1-11 to 1-8. There were some nerves when the Balbec moved within a single point at 1-11 to 1-10. However, the game seemed decided when Pa Dundon’s men scored a devastating goal and one point to put the ‘Well five points ahead by 2-12 to 1-10. Kilmallock were running out of time and almost set up the grandstand finish with a late goal for 2-12 to 2-10. Thankfully Patrickswell held firm and got an insurance point to win by 2-13 to 2-10. They will face the same opponents in the semi-final.

UNDER 16 HURLERS: There was a memorable U-16 County semi-final against Garryspillane in Claughaun. Patrickswell trailed by 0-10 to 1-5 at half-time. At various stages of the second half, the deficit grew and the outcome pointed towards a Garryspillane victory. However, Patrickswell showed incredible determination to rattle their opponents with goals to force the most unlikely extra time. At the end of normal time, the score was 2-14 to 0-20.

Garryspillane seemed to have the greater energy reserves and set about dominating extra time. The East boys increased their lead and ended up as 0-30 to 2-17 winners. Hard luck to the Patrickswell boys for their brave display.

UNDER 13 HURLERS: The U-13 hurlers beat Monaleen by 2-2 to 1-4 in the County League.

CAMOGIE: The U-16 girls triumphed in the County Plate Final. Congratulations to the team and management.

The Minors have the second round of championship pencilled in for the weekend of October 15, but that is not fixed yet. Thanks to all the U-6s and U-8s that played at half-time in the Senior match at the Gaelic Grounds. The Parish League is coming, with all youngsters preparing hard for this day. The date will be confirmed soon.

SENIOR HURLERS: Patrickswell have reached the County Championship semi-final after an entertaining victory over Doon. Kevin O’Brien struck the opening point within the first minute, but the ‘Well were stung immediately by a Doon goal. The match was keenly contested in the opening fifteen minutes as the teams were inseparable at 0-7 to 1-4. In the latter stages of the first half, Patrickswell scored three consecutive points to establish an 0-11 to 1-5 margin. However, the lead was short-lived as Doon retaliated with three unanswered points of their own. Thankfully, Aaron Gillane and Seanie O’Brien notched some points to cement a 0-13 to 1-8 half time advantage.

The second half began with an exchange of two points apiece as Patrickswell battled to pull away. The decisive spell occurred when Nigel Foley, Jack Kelleher and Tom O’Brien scored points to build a five-point lead at 0-18 to 1-10. Doon were running out of time and the fixture was effectively decided when Tom O’Brien’s goal expanded the margin to eight points at 1-20 to 1-12. Doon pressed forward and were rewarded with another goal five minutes from the end. The scoreboard read 1-22 to 2-14, but the recovery was snuffed out when John Flynn, Cian Lynch and Aaron Gillane raised the flag to enhance the score to 1-25 to 2-15 and a seven-point lead. The last act of the game was yet another Doon goal to close out the match at 1-25 to 3-15.

Patrickswell will face Kilmallock in the County semi-final.

MINOR HURLERS: The Minor hurlers face Kilmallock in a critical match on Tuesday September 27 at 7.30pm in Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale.

UNDER 16 HURLERS: The U-16 hurlers will face off in the Championship semi-final against Garryspillane on Saturday October 1 in Childers Road at 1.30pm.

UNDER 13 HURLERS: The U-13 hurlers produced a comprehensive display to beat Knockaderry by 4-9 to 1-4. Their final pool match is away to Monaleen on Wednesday September 28 at 6.30pm.

CAMOGIE: The Junior Camogie team lost out to Galbally in the County quarter-final by four points. The ladies played their hearts out for the entire game. The sides were all square at half-time with the ‘Well looking the stronger team. Galbally scored from the second half throw-in and gradually kept extending the lead. Patrickswell fought hard at the end to come back. They are a fabulous and very talented young team that will be back next year.

Patrickswell had a busy weekend with the U-6s and U-8s. The U-6 boys and girls travelled to South Liberties and great fun was had by all. The U-8s travelled to Ballybrown for the U-8 County blitz. They were fantastic and won all their matches. Well done to all involved.

The U-6 and U-8 boys were out again in the Gaelic Grounds at half-time of the senior match. It’s great to see our future stars playing in the Gaelic Grounds.

SENIOR HURLERS: The Senior hurlers have an important week in store. The ‘Well contest a County Championship quarter-final tie with Doon on Sunday September 25 at 3.45pm in the Gaelic Grounds. Please support the biggest match of the season to date.

MINOR HURLERS: The Minor hurlers suffered late heartbreak in their Premier Championship match against Na Piarsaigh. Patrickswell dominated the opening quarter and established a solid 0-7 to 0-2 lead within fifteen minutes. The remainder of the first half was relatively even as the ‘Well reached the interval at 0-11 to 0-7 ahead.

Na Piarsaigh experienced a purple patch at the start of the second half and managed to close the gap to 0-13 to 0-12. The spectators were on edge as the pendulum swung one way and then another. With five minutes remaining, Patrickswell looked in the driving seat at 0-16 to 0-13 ahead.

Na Piarsaigh were undaunted and set up a nervous finale with two consecutive point to trail by just 0-16 to 0-15. There was a huge sigh of relief when Patrickswell added a late insurance point and led by two scores. However, deep in injury time, the Caherdavin boys produced a devastating move to plunder a late goal. The referee blew the final whistle almost immediately and Na Piarsaigh had sneaked home by 1-15 to 0-17.

The next match is scheduled for Saturday September 24 away to Kilmallock at 5pm.

UNDER 16 HURLERS: The U-16 hurlers play Mungret in a second place decider on Monday September 19 at 6.15pm away.

UNDER 13 HURLERS: The U-13 hurlers suffered their first defeat of the season when they lost by 2-10 to 2-4 at Na Piarsaigh. On Wednesday September 21, we welcome Knockaderry at 6.30pm.

CAMOGIE: The U-10 girls played brilliantly to reach the County Blitz final in LIT. Many thanks to Ali Baba Restaurant for treating all the players to a meal after the blitz. We are also grateful to Rose Kelleher, Louise Foley and Mary O’Neill for looking after the U-10s so well at the blitz.

The Junior Ladies’ match with Tournafulla did not take place as expected. The girls have qualified for a quarter-final in any case and await their opponents.

SENIOR HURLERS: The Senior hurlers produced an effective performance to defeat Murroe-Boher in the last group stage match. Patrickswell nudged into an early 0-3 to 0-1 lead within five minutes. Murroe-Boher stayed in contention and levelled to scores at 0-3 apiece by the 10th minute. The remainder of the first half was evenly balanced, although Patrickswell reached half-time at 0-7 to 0-6 ahead.

The ‘Well started the second half more strongly and extended their lead to 0-10 to 0-8 after forty minutes. The match was settled in a decisive spell when Patrickswell scored four unanswered points from Tom O’Brien, Lar Considine, Aaron Gillane and Cian Lynch. At this point, the scoreboard read 0-14 to 0-8 with five minutes left on the clock. There were two points each in the latter stages as Gary Kirby’s men triumphed by 0-16 to 0-10.

MINOR HURLERS: The Minor hurlers claimed a vital win over Mungret in the Premier Championship to stay in contention. Patrickswell flew into an early 0-5 to 0-0 lead and the signs were positive. Mungret edged back into the contest; however Patrickswell were good value for their 0-12 to 0-5 interval lead.

The second half saw Mungret close the gap and cause some headaches. With fifteen minutes remaining, the hosts were just four points behind at 0-13 to 0-9. As Mungret pressed for a goal, Patrickswell were able to secure some insurance points and won by 0-18 to 0-13.

It’s a busy week for the Minors as we face Na Piarsaigh on Tuesday September 13 in Patrickswell at 6.15pm. On Sunday September 18, Patrickswell visit Kilmallock at 5pm.

UNDER 16 HURLERS: The U-16 hurlers received a walkover from Padraig Pearses. The boys will now enter a playoff with Mungret away on Monday September 19 at 6.15pm.

UNDER 13 HURLERS: The U-13 hurlers had a fantastic week as they defeated Adare by 10-16 to 1-4 and neighbours Ballybrown by 3-12 to 1-4. Their next match is on Wednesday September 14 at home to Newcastlewest at 6.30pm.

CAMOGIE: The next Junior Camogie County Championship match is away to Tournafulla on Sunday September 18 at noon. The U-16 girls narrowly lost out to Kilmallock in what was a great game. Their next match is fixed for Tuesday September 13 at 6.30pm against Treaty Gaels in Old Christians.

The U-13 girls had a fantastic performance with a winning result of 6-2 to 3-3 against Adare. Many thanks to the parents for the support from the sidelines and getting the players there on time. Their next match is against Ballybrown on October 1.

The U-10 County Blitz occurs on Saturday September 17 in LIT at 10 am. These girls played Adare in a challenge match to prepare for the blitz. It was a great match with lots of skill and determination.

Congratulations to the U-8 boys and girls who played at half-time of the Senior County Championship in the Gaelic Grounds. The U-8 County Blitz is fixed for Saturday September 24 in Ballybrown.

SENIOR HURLERS: The Senior hurlers won the Michael O’Brien Memorial Tournament after an entertaining victory over Glen Rovers of Cork. Patrickswell made a rapid start and notched three consecutive points in the opening five minutes. Glen Rovers settled down and replied with three points to draw level. However, goals by Aaron Gillane and Lar Considine launched the ‘Well into a lead of five points (2-5 to 0-6) after twenty minutes. Glen Rovers displayed great resilience to narrow the gap to a solitary point at half-time (2-7 to 1-9).

The second half was a very high-scoring affair. Kevin O’Brien’s early goal put daylight between the teams, but it was immediately cancelled out by a Glen Rovers goal. With the scoreline narrowly in Patrickswell’s favour at 3-9 to 2-11, the match was in the balance and the Cork side were competitive. Thankfully, Patrickswell adhered to their gameplan and devastated their opponents with a salvo of 2-4 without replay in just five minutes. Gary Kirby’s men were suddenly cruising at 5-13 to 2-11. The game closed out with Glen Rovers narrowing the gap, but Patrickswell ran out worthy 5-15 to 2-16 winners.

On Sunday September 11, Patrickswell face Murroe-Boher in the last group match of the County Championship at 2pm in the Gaelic Grounds.

MINOR HURLERS: The Minor hurlers visit Mungret on Thursday September 8 at 6.30pm, before welcoming Na Piarsaigh to Patrickswell on Tuesday September 13 at 6.15pm.

UNDER 16 HURLERS: Patrickswell racked up an impressive 3-18 to 0-8 victory over Na Piarsaigh in the County Championship. The final group match is on Wednesday September 7 away to Padraig Pearses in Boher at 6.30pm.

UNDER 13 HURLERS: The U-13 hurlers host Adare on Monday September 5 at 6.30pm, before travelling to Ballybrown on Monday September 12 at 6.30pm

CAMOGIE: The Junior Ladies had a mixed start to the Championship. Their opening match ended in defeat to Shannonside by four points. However, the response was immediate as the ladies beat Templeglantine by 6-11 to 3-5 in the second fixture. Their third instalment is against Tournafulla away on Sunday September 18.

The U-16 girls play Kilmallock at home on Thursday September 8 at 6.30pm. The U-13 girls visit Adare on Tuesday September 6 at 6.30pm in Manor Field Adare. They played a challenge match against Mungret and won by 7-3 to 5-2. The U-10 County Blitz is confirmed for Saturday September 17 in Monaleen.

INTER-COUNTY: Congratulations to everyone who represented Limerick from U-14 to U-17 in the All-Ireland Tournaments.

CAMOGIE: The Minor girls made the perfect start to their defence of their County title. Patrickswell beat Doon by 1-13 to 3-5.

The Junior Ladies play their first Championship match on Tuesday August 30 against Shannonside in Rathbane at 7.15pm. Their second round championship fixture is at home to Templeglantine on Sunday September 4 at 10am.

SENIOR HURLING: The Senior hurlers produced a clinical display to comfortably defeat Ahane in the County Championship. Patrickswell started positively and scored points through Lar Considine and Aaron Gillane before Ahane struck their opening point. With a breeze at their backs, the ‘Well took full control and plundered twelve consecutive points to subdue their rivals. The contest was effectively decided within twenty minutes. Ahane managed to stem the tide with a point, but Aaron Gillane (0-2) and Lar Considine ensured that the half-time score was 0-17 to 0-2.

The second half was a more balanced affair, despite Patrickswell facing the stiff wind. There was an exchange of six points apiece to make the score 0-23 to 0-8 with ten minutes remaining. The game concluded in near darkness on a gloomy evening. Niall Moran delivered a ferocious penalty to give Ahane consolation, but the result was a convincing 0-25 to 1-9 triumph for Patrickswell.

The City Championship Final against Na Piarsaigh is on Friday August 26 at 6.30pm in Claughaun.

JUNIOR A HURLING: The Junior A hurlers did not progress to the City Championship semi-final as Crecora achieved their desired result against Monaleen. Hard luck to the players and management.

MINOR HURLING: The Premier Hurling Championship match against Murroe-Boher did not take place as scheduled.

CAMOGIE: The Junior Camogie Championship 1st round against Shannonside is fixed for Tuesday August 30, with a time and venue to be confirmed. The opening round of the Minor Championship against Doon starts on Monday August 22 in Doon. Patrickswell is defending its title this year.

U-16 training has resumed. Anyone interested in playing should contact John Gorman or Marie Carroll. U-10, U-12 and U-13’s training resumed last Friday August 19 and continues every Friday at 6.30pm. Anyone interested in joining should contact Dave Hennessy. Crecora travelled to Patrickswell last week with their U-6s and U-8s. We had two fantastic sporting games with the girls showing off all the skills they’ve learned so far this year. Great fun was had by all involved.

JUNIOR B FOOTBALL: The Junior B footballers will face St. Patrick’s in the City Championship semi-final on Tuesday August 23 at 6.45pm in Rathbane.

UNDER 16 HURLING: The U-16 hurlers were beaten by Garryspillane away. They have a record of four wins and two defeats. There are two final group matches to play in the coming weeks.

TIDY TOWNS: Well done to Patrickswell Tidy Towns Committee, who qualified from their Limerick 95FM “Going for Gold” group with a resounding 41% of the public vote. Good luck in the decider.

SENIOR HURLING: The Senior Hurlers suffered defeat in the All-County Hurling League Final (2015 deferred) despite a valiant comeback against Na Piarsaigh. The Caherdavin men were dominant in the first ten minutes as they raced into a 0-7 to 0-0 lead. Kevin O’Brien scored a goal to get Patrickswell on the scoreboard, but Na Piarsaigh entered half-time at 1-17 to 1-6 ahead.

The ‘Well battled impressively throughout the second half and had eroded the Na Piarsaigh lead to 1-25 to 1-17 with ten minutes remaining. There was a chance of a shock recovery as Patrickswell controlled the scoreboard in the closing stages, but the crucial goal was not forthcoming. Na Piarsaigh took the trophy by 1-26 to 1-22.

The next fixture is the return of the County Championship against Ahane on Saturday August 20 at 6.45pm in the Gaelic Grounds.

MINOR HURLING: The Minor Hurlers experienced a setback in the Premier Championship against Monaleen. Patrickswell made a rapid start to notch 1-2 without reply in the opening five minutes. The remainder of the first half was extremely close; however Monaleen plundered a goal on the stroke of half-time to narrow the arrears. The interval score was 1-7 to 1-4 for Patrickswell.

Monaleen began to chip away at their deficit and trailed by just 1-11 to 1-10 with fifteen minutes remaining. Patrickswell seemed capable of holding on for victory, but Monaleen turned the match with a devastating late goal. The final score was a 2-12 to 1-12 defeat for the ‘Well. The next match is scheduled at home for Friday August 19 at 7pm against Murroe Boher.

JUNIOR A HURLING: The Junior A hurlers delivered a workmanlike display to defeat Old Christians in the City Championship. Patrickswell were cruising at 2-1 to 0-0 before Old Christians rallied themselves. The rest of the first half was low scoring as Patrickswell led 2-4 to 0-4 at the break.

The second half began with another Well flurry. Another 1-3 was added without reply to embellish a 3-5 to 0-4 margin. Old Christians managed two goals; however Patrickswell emerged as comfortable 3-13 to 2-7 victors. We now await to outcome of other fixtures to determine if we reach the City semi-final.

UNDER 14 FOOTBALLERS: The U-14 footballers finished their County Championship with defeat against Dromcollogher Broadford.

INTER-COUNTY: Congratulations to Limerick for their superb Minor All-Ireland semi-final victory over Dublin at Croke Park. Well done to John Flynn and Jamie Dillon of Patrickswell.

JUNIOR A HURLING: The Junior A hurlers produced a superb comeback in the City Championship against St. Patrick’s. The ‘Well dominated the opening fifteen minutes and accumulated a 0-6 to 0-2 lead. However, our opponents had a purple patch that yielded a goal and five points before the interval. The half-time score was 1-7 to 0-7 in arrears. Our survival in the competition hung by a thread.

The second half began brightly for Patrickswell, who outscored St. Patrick’s by 0-4 to 0-2 in the early stages. With the scoreline at 1-9 to 0-11 behind, the ‘Well notched the crucial goal that turned the match around. Two consecutive points were added to our tally as Patrickswell led by 1-13 to 1-9 with five minutes remaining. Thankfully, St. Patrick’s could not hit the net and Patrickswell triumphed by 1-15 to 1-10 at the final whistle.

The final pool match is on Wednesday August 10 against Old Christians in Rhebogue at 7pm. A victory is necessary and favourable results elsewhere are required to progress.

SENIOR HURLING: The All-County Hurling League Final between Patrickswell and Na Piarsaigh has been fixed for Sunday August 14 at 6.30pm in Claughaun.

MINOR HURLING: The Minor hurlers visit Monaleen at 7.30pm on Tuesday August 9 for their Premier Hurling Championship encounter.

JUNIOR B FOOTBALL: The match with Ballinacurra Gaels was conceded by our opponents. As a result, Patrickswell win the group and progress to the City Championship semi-final.

UNDER 16 HURLING: The ‘Well suffered their first defeat of the County Championship against Mungret by a single point, 2-7 to 1-9. Their next scheduled match is away to Garryspillane on Monday August 15 at 7.15pm.

UNDER 14 FOOTBALL: Our U-14 footballers suffered defeat to neighbours Croom in the Division 3 Championship. The boys entertain Dromcolloger-Broadford on Wednesday August 10 at 7.15pm.

JUNIOR A HURLERS: The Junior A hurlers suffered a setback in the City Championship against neighbours Crecora. On a cool and rainy evening, Patrickswell made the brighter start and led by 0-3 to 0-1 after fifteen minutes. However, Crecora levelled the scores at 0-3 apiece and took charge for the remainder of the first half. They led by 0-6 to 0-4 at the interval.

The second half was characterised by small bursts of low scoring. Crecora tacked on two points to extend their lead by 0-8 to 0-4. The ‘Well responded with two consecutive points, before our opponents mirrored that impact. There was ten minutes on the clock and the scoreboard read 0-10 to 0-6 in arrears. Patrickswell started to apply more pressure and trimmed the deficit to 0-10 to 0-8. The closing minutes produced a number of frees that were dropped short, but the ‘Well could not breach Crecora’s defence and score the vital goal. The final score was 0-10 to 0-8 for Crecora.

The Junior A Hurlers play St. Patrick’s at 7.15pm on Wednesday August 3 in Ballybrown. On Saturday August 6, Patrickswell play Old Christians in Rhebogue at 7pm.

CAMOGIE: The Junior Ladies finished second place in their Munster Summer League group after a spirited defeat to Cashel. Patrickswell performed very well against a strong Cashel team and were in contention until the closing stages. The group fixtures produced two wins, one draw and one defeat.

MINOR HURLERS: Our resurgent Minor Hurlers will visit Monaleen on Tuesday August 9 at 7.30pm in the Premier Championship. It’s their fourth fixture after two wins and one defeat to date.

JUNIOR A HURLERS: The Junior A Hurlers have an opportunity to bounce back in the City Championship when they face Crecora in Mungret on Thursday July 28 at 7pm.

UNDER 16 Hurlers: The U-16 hurlers kept their perfect record intact with a fantastic 3-19 to 0-9 victory away to Doon. They have won four matches now and face Mungret at home on Monday August 1 at 7.15pm. Well done to the players and management.

UNDER 14 Hurlers: The U-14 hurlers lost away to Kilpeacon and finish the pool stage with two wins and three defeats.

UNDER 14 Footballers: The U-14 footballers visit Croom on Wednesday July 27 at 7.15pm in Division Three of the Championship.

CAMOGIE: The Junior Ladies enjoyed another great win in the Munster Summer League. They came from behind in the second half and battled back to pip Kilruane McDonaghs by 2-5 to 2-4. Their final League match is away to Cashel on Friday July 29 at 7.30pm. Another win will secure top spot in the league.

U-10 and U-12 camogie training is taking a three-week break and will return on Friday August 19 at 6.30pm. In the coming weeks, there will be more blitzes and matches organised for the U-6 and U-8s. This will allow the young girls to showcase the skills they’ve learnt since March.

U-16 training resumes on August 2. Anyone that is interested in joining the panel should contact John O’Gorman or Dave Hennessy. Patrickswell Camogie have entered an U-13 County Championship this year and they will be managed by Gearoid Balfry and Veronica Ryan. The team is very strong and the club wishes them the very best of luck.

JUNIOR A HURLERS: It was a hectic 48 hours for the Junior A hurlers as they battled unsuccessfully against Monaleen and Na Piarsaigh in the City Championship.

In the first match, Patrickswell faced a strong Monaleen side. The opening half was competitive, but Monaleen reached the interval at 1-8 to 0-7 ahead. Patrickswell endeavoured to reduce the gap throughout the second half, but our opponents were able to stretch their lead to nine points with ten minutes remaining. The ‘Well managed a late goal to create some nerves for Monaleen; however the final score was a 2-13 to 1-10 defeat.

Two days later, Patrickswell and Na Piarsaigh produced a thoroughly nail-biting contest in Kildimo. The Caherdavin men seemed to be cruising at half-time with a 2-9 to 0-8 advantage. Early in the second half, they increased the gap to eleven points. There appeared to be no road back for Patrickswell, but the fightback commenced with a flurry of goals. With five minutes left, Patrickswell had demolished the Na Piarsaigh lead and drawn level at 4-13 apiece. The Patrickswell supporters believed that a great escape was on the cards. Unfortunately, Na Piarsaigh scrambled a late goal to frustrate the revival and they won by 4-17 to 4-13. Hard luck to the players and management for their gallant fightback.

On Tuesday July 19, Patrickswell meet St.Patrick’s at 7.30pm in Ballybrown. Meanwhile on Saturday July 23, we play Crecora in Mungret at 7pm.

SENIOR HURLERS: On Sunday July 24 at home, Patrickswell are scheduled to meet Na PIarsaigh at 7pm in the All-County Hurling League.

MINOR HURLERS: After a three month break, the Minor hurlers returned to the Premier Championship with a fine 4-21 to 0-13 victory over neighbours Adare. The result gives Patrickswell two wins and one defeat to date.

UNDER 16 HURLERS: The U-16 hurlers travel to Doon on Monday July 18 at 7.15pm to defend their 100% record.

UNDER 14 HURLERS: The U-14 hurlers play their final pool game against Kilpeacon in Crecora on Wednesday July 20 at 7.15pm.

SENIOR HURLING: The Senior Hurlers were delighted to win the Carew Cup at the Thurles Sarsfields Tournament. Patrickswell beat Holycross/Ballycahill, Midelton, lost to St. Vincents and beat Newmarket-on-Fergus in the Final.

JUNIOR A HURLING: Patrickswell are scheduled to play Monaleen in Rhebogue on Wednesday July 13 at 7pm for their second City Championship fixture. On Saturday July 16, we are slated to play Na Piarsaigh in Claughaun at 7pm.

JUNIOR B FOOTBALL: The Junior B Footballers won their opening fixture of the City Championship after an encouraging 0-11 to 1-5 victory over Abbey Sarsfields. Their next outing is on Thursday July 14 at 7.30pm away to Ballinacurra Gaels.

UNDER 16 HURLING: The U-16 hurlers showed no signs of cobwebs as they returned to the County Championship with a great win over Kildimo-Pallaskenry by 2-25 to 3-10. The boys have a perfect record of three wins now.

UNDER 14 HURLING: The U-14 hurlers suffered a reverse against parish neighbours Ballybrown. The ‘Well sit in mid-table with two wins and two defeats.

CAMOGIE: The Junior Ladies drew with Tournafulla in the Munster Summer League last on a scoreline of 2-7 to 3-4. Patrickswell have a bye this Friday July 15 and our next round is fixed for Friday July 22 v Kilruane McDonaghs. Congratulations to Ellie Higgins, who was picked for the U-12 County Panel for 2016.

INTER-COUNTY: Well done to Limerick and the Patrickswell contingent in the Senior, Minor and U-21 All-Ireland matches. It was a clean sweep on the pitch.

SENIOR HURLING: Our Senior hurlers produced a gritty performance to defeat Doon by 2-15 to 2-14 in the All-County League. In addition, Murroe-Boher provided a walkover. As a result, Patrickswell are top of the table with a 100% record. Our final group match is scheduled against undefeated Na Piarsaigh on Saturday July 2 at 7.30pm at home. It should prove to be a great match.

JUNIOR A HURLING: Patrickswell made a flying start to the City Championship with a solid 0-16 to 0-11 victory over neighbours Ballybrown. Our next fixture is slated for Friday July 1 at 7.30pm against St. Patrick’s in Rathbane.

U-16 HURLING: After the completion of State Examinations, the Championship is back in action with a home fixture against Kildimo-Pallaskenry on Monday July 4 at 7.15pm.

U-14 HURLING: The next fixture for the U-14 hurlers is a home tie to welcome Ballybrown on Wednesday July 6 at 7.15pm.

U-14 FOOTBALL: Patrickswell entertain Rathkeale at 6.15pm on Tuesday June 28.

CAMOGIE: The Junior Ladies travelled to Kildangan to take part in their seven-a-side tournament. The ‘Well performed strongly in their three matches and qualified for a Plate Final against Portroe. Unfortunately, Portroe proved too strong but the players kept battling to the end. We’d like to thank Kildangan for hosting the event and making Patrickswell so welcome.

The next tournament for the Junior Ladies is the Munster Summer League, which is run while the Club Championship is on break due to Inter-County matches. This league will take place throughout Munster. Best of luck to the ladies.

The U-8 girls played their second blitz of the summer in Monaleen against Monaleen, Na Piarsaigh and Mungret. There was a fantastic turnout of 16 girls, who behaved and played impeccably. Patrickswell won all of their matches. Many thanks to the host club in Monaleen and to the parents for supporting the blitz. Patrickswell host a U-10 blitz on Saturday July 2 at 11am.

GUESS THE MINUTE: The Club is running a “Guess the Minute of the First Goal” in the Munster Championship between Tipperary and Waterford. The prize is €500 for a cost of €2. Tickets are available from shops, pubs, senior hurlers, the camogie club and juvenile club.

INTER-COUNTY: Hard luck to the Limerick senior hurlers after running Tipperary close in the Munster Hurling Championship. Well done to the Limerick intermediate hurlers for progressing to the provincial final.

SENIOR HURLING: The All-County Hurling League returns with a visit to Doon on Tuesday June 21 at 7.30pm. The match on Thursday June 23 against Murroe Boher at home is doubtful at this time.

JUNIOR A HURLING: The Junior A hurlers start the City Championship against Ballybrown in Mungret on Friday June 24 at 7pm.

U-14 HURLING: The U-14 hurlers were beaten by Mungret in the Championship.

U-14 FOOTBALL: The U-14 footballers are scheduled to play at home to Rathkeale on Tuesday June 28 at 6.15pm.

CAMOGIE: The Junior Camogie ladies take part in the Kildangan 7-a-side tournament on Saturday June 25. A special thanks to Kildangan GAA club for naming the shield after the late Willie Foley. It’s a great honour to the club and a pleasure to take part in this tournament.

The Juniors are also scheduled to commence the Munster Summer league on Monday June 27.

The U-12 girls played Tournafulla at home in their last league game and narrowly lost out to them. It was yet another fine performance. This team was well managed by Gearoid Balfry, Veronica Ryan and Louise Carey. Well done to all involved. U-12 training continues as usual on Friday nights at 6.30pm.

The U-10 blitz took place in Monaleen, where Patrickswell played fantastically in all three games and won every fixture. Thanks to Monaleen for a very well organised day. The U-8s second blitz takes place in Monaleen this Wednesday June 22. Best of luck to all the girls. Underage training continues as normal every Friday evening at 6.30pm. INTERCOUNTY: All roads lead to Thurles as Limerick face Tipperary in the Munster Hurling Championship. Best wishes to Limerick and its healthy Patrickswell contingent.

SENIOR HURLERS: The Senior hurlers are scheduled to play two All-County Hurling League matches in 48 hours. On Tuesday June 21, the ‘Well are set to play Doon away at 7.30pm. On Thursday June 23, we welcome Murroe-Boher at 7.30pm.

CAMOGIE: The U-12 girls had a great win of 4-1 to 1-0 against Adare. Their final game is at home to Tournafulla on Thursday June 16 at 6.45pm. Patrickswell hosted a U-8 blitz last weekend and invited Na Piarsaigh, Monaleen and Mungret to play each other. It was a great day of camogie, with impressive performances from all teams. Patrickswell played with great determination and heart, winning all of our games. The future is definitely bright. The next blitz is on July 2 in Monaleen.

U-14 HURLERS: The U-14 hurlers visit Mungret on Wednesday June 15 at 7.30pm for their Championship match.

U-14 FOOTBALLERS: The U-14 footballers were defeated by Granagh-Ballingarry and now have a record of one win, one draw and one defeat in the Division 3 Championship.

SENIOR HURLERS: The Senior hurlers delivered a workmanlike performance to defeat Knockainey in the Senior Hurling Championship. The ‘Well made a promising start and scored three unanswered points within five minutes. However, Knockainey grew into the game and trimmed the lead to 0-3 to 0-2. The comeback was short-lived as Patrickswell secured four consecutive points to hold an 0-7 to 0-2 advantage after fifteen minutes. The remainder of the first half was relatively balanced as the ‘Well reached half-time at 0-13 to 0-6 ahead.

The second half began in a positive manner for Gary Kirby’s men as the margin grew to nine points at 0-15 to 0-6. To their credit, Knockainey responded with a flurry of four points to slash the deficit at 0-15 to 0-10. The contest was competitive again. The match was short of goalscoring opportunities, but Patrickswell put the result beyond doubt with a salvo of five points to stretch a lead of 0-20 to 0-10. There was an exchange of points near the end; however the ‘Well emerged as 0-22 to 0-14 victors.

On Saturday June 4, the senior hurlers are scheduled to play Murroe-Boher at 7.30pm in Patrickswell.

CLUB GOLF CLASSIC: The Golf Classic was played in glorious conditions at Adare Manor Golf Club. There were approximately thirty teams vying for the top prize. The following prizes were won: 1st place – Duggans Systems Limited Team, 2nd place – Russell’s Team, 3rd place – Lar Considine’s Team, 4th place – Frankie Nolan’s Team, 5th place – Dark Horse Team, 6th place – Pat Barry’s Team and 7th place – Gerry Molyneux’s team. Special prizes were awarded to Pat Purcell for “Nearest to Pin”, Natal O’Grady for “Longest Drive” and John J. Browne for “Hole in One Competition”. Many thanks to everyone who took part and the event sponsor, West Auto Electrical of Newcastlewest.

U-14 HURLERS: The U-14 hurlers made a winning start to their championship with a 2-9 to 2-7 victory over Na Piarsaigh away. Their next match is home to Adare on Thursday June 2 at 7.15pm.

U-14 FOOTBALLERS: The U-14 footballers beat Athea by 5-3 to 1-6 in the championship.

CAMOGIE: Camogie is thriving in Patrickswell. The U-12 camogie team had another successful outing with a victory over Treaty Gaels by 4-2 to 0-0. The players continue to build on their skills and collectively bring a huge amount of energy to the game. They have a great team spirit and the club has witnessed the players evolve their game week by week. They should be very proud of their performance against Treaty Gaels.

The U-8s and U-10s travelled to Ballybrown for separate challenge matches and turned in great performances to win both games. The U-10s then travelled to Na Piarsaigh for their first blitz of the season. Patrickswell lost their first encounter with Monaleen, but recorded victories over Na Piarsaigh and Mungret. It was a great day out that was enjoyed by the players, parents and mentors. The next U-10 blitz takes place on June 18 in Monaleen.

SENIOR HURLERS: The Senior hurlers received a walkover from Adare in their fourth fixture of the All County Hurling League. As a result, Patrickswell are on top of the league with a 100% record. On Sunday May 29, Patrickswell face Knockainey in their third match of the County Championship. The match is in Bruff at 7.30pm. Please make a big effort to attend and support the club.

GOLF CLASSIC: The Club Golf Classic takes place at Adare Manor Golf Club on Friday May 27. Thanks to everyone who has entered a team and sponsored a tee-box or green. We’re hoping for great weather and an enjoyable day.

SENIOR HURLING: The Senior hurlers produced a devastating second half display to beat Bruff in the County Senior Hurling Championship. Patrickswell were comfortable in the opening fifteen minutes as they built a solid 0-9 to 0-2 lead. However, Bruff edged back into the contest and managed to close the gap to a single point (0-11 to 1-7) by the interval.

The ‘Well emerged for the second half with renewed purpose and overpowered their opponents. Goals from Aaron Gillane, Cian Lynch and Kevin O’Brien put the gloss on a resounding 3-26 to 1-11 victory.

On Saturday May 21, Patrickswell are scheduled to host Adare at 7.30pm in the All-County Hurling League (Match 4).

U-14 HURLERS: Our U-14 hurlers commence the County Hurling Championship with a visit to Na Piarsaigh on Monday May 23 at 7.15pm.

U-14 FOOTBALLERS: Our U-14 footballers drew 3-2 to 2-5 with Mungret in the Division 3A Championship.

CAMOGIE: The U-12 camogie management and camogie club would like to acknowledge the fantastic team effort displayed by the 16 players in their recent match against Newcastlewest. Patrickswell recorded a brilliant win of 4-3 to 0-0. Every player made a telling contribution to the match. The management also greatly appreciate the ongoing support and commitment given by the parents of players, which makes the management’s job much easier. SENIOR HURLERS: The Senior hurlers were defeated in the opening round of the County Championship by a determined Adare team. Patrickswell made a blistering start when Aaron Gillane notched a goal within a minute. Adare recovered quickly with a string of four consecutive points. However, Aaron Gillane’s second goal pushed Patrickswell into the lead by 2-1 to 0-6 after fifteen minutes.

Adare experienced a “purple patch” in the middle of the first half. During this spell, they scored a goal and three unanswered points to build a 1-10 to 2-4 advantage. Patrickswell were unfazed and responded with rapid points from Cian Lynch (0-2), Tom O’Brien and Diarmaid Byrnes to nudge ahead at 2-8 to 1-10. Goalkeeper Brian Murray produced a stunning acrobatic save to deny a certain Adare goal as our opponents finished the first half with two points. The interval score was 1-12 to 2-8 in Adare’s favour.

The second half was a close contest as Patrickswell attempted to erode Adare’s lead. There was an exchange of points that kept the one-point deficit at 1-16 to 2-12 with fifteen minutes remaining. The ‘Well tried in vain to overturn the arrears, but Adare managed to keep in front. Due to numerous injuries, there was lengthy stoppage time. At this point, Patrickswell were 1-19 (22) to 2-14 (20) down. Aaron Gillane scored a point from a free as Patrickswell gambled on sufficient injury time to equalise. Unfortunately, Adare struck an insurance point and held out for a 1-20 to 2-15 win. Our next match is against Bruff in Claughaun on Sunday May 15.

JUNIOR A HURLERS: The Junior A hurlers secured their first victory of the City League with a 2-11 to 0-14 triumph over Na Piarsaigh.

CAMOGIE: The Junior Ladies were beaten by Newcastlewest in the County League Final at a chilly Mick Neville Park. The first ten minutes were keenly contested as Newcastlewest held a 1-3 to 1-1 lead. Unfortunately, our opponents stepped up a gear and plundered six points without reply to reach half-time at 1-9 to 1-1. The margin was irretrievable in the second half as Newcastlewest emerged as worthy winners.

The first round of the Junior Camogie Championship takes place next Sunday May 15 at 3.30pm in Patrickswell versus Ahane. Training continues on Monday and Thursday nights.

The U-12 girls narrowly lost to Bruff by 4-3 to 3-3. They play Newcastlewest on Thursday May 12 at 6.45pm in Patrickswell. Congratulations to Gloria O’Donnell and Declan O’Grady on their recent marriage. Best wishes for the future.

CAMOGIE: The U-12s play Bruff this Thursday May 5 at 6.45pm in Patrickswell. The U-16 match against Cappamore is refixed for Wednesday May 4 at 7pm in Cappamore. Underage training continues every Friday night. If anyone is interested in joining, please come along to try it out.

U-16 HURLERS: The U-16 hurlers continued their excellent start to the championship season with a 5-16 to 2-9 victory away to Adare.

GOLF CLASSIC: The club’s Golf Classic will take place on Friday May 27 in the verdant surroundings of Adare Manor Golf Club. Teams of four players can register for €200 per team. The fee includes a full meal. The prize for the winning team is a television each (or similar). Tee boxes can be sponsored for €50 each. SENIOR HURLING: The Senior Hurlers recorded their third straight victory in the All-County Hurling League after a 2-16 to 2-15 win away to Kilmallock.

The ‘Well trailed by 1-8 to 0-9 at half-time and the game seemed to be slipping away with a five point deficit with just fifteen minutes left. However, our hosts were rattled by two quick Patrickswell goals which turned the match around. The League now takes a break for two rounds of the County Championship to be played. Patrickswell sit on top of the league with a 100% record.

CAMOGIE: The Junior Ladies recorded a comprehensive 5-17 to 0-0 victory over Ahane in the League. As a result, Patrickswell finished top of the group. Ahane were scheduled to be the semi-final opponents, but they offered a walkover instead.

The final against Newcastlewest is on Monday May 2 at 4pm in a venue to be decided.

Training for Juniors and Minors continues on Mondays at 7.30pm and Thursdays at 6.30pm. U-14 and U-16 training continues every Saturday evening at 5.30pm on the astroturf.

The U-10 and U-12 girls will train together on Fridays at 6.30pm on the pitch. The U-6 and U-8 girls will train with the boys on the astroturf at 6.30pm.

Senior Hurlers: The Senior hurlers maintained their excellent start to the season with a 2-18 to 0-16 victory over Monaleen in the City Championship semi-final. The next scheduled match is a League trip to Kilmallock on Tuesday April 19 at 6.30pm.

Minor hurlers: The Minor Hurlers chalked up their first win of the Premier Championship with a 2-9 to 1-6 victory away to Garryspillane. This was a vital result before the competition enters the State Examinations break.

U-16 hurlers: The U-16 hurlers start their Championship with a home fixture against Bruff on Monday April 18 at 6.15pm. On next Monday April 25, the boys are scheduled to play Adare away at 6.15pm.

U-15 hurlers: The U-15 hurlers played out a competitive 1-8 to 2-5 draw with Garryspillane. Their next match is home to Ballybrown on Wednesday April 20 at 6.15pm.

U-12 hurlers: The U-12 Hurling League commences on Thursday April 21.

Camogie: The Junior Ladies received a walkover from Knockaderry and will travel to Ahane on Wednesday April 20 at 7.30pm.

Congratulations to Sarah Gillane on being selected for the U-15 County Panel and to Tamara Murray for being selected on the County U-13 Panel.

Well done to the U-12 girls on their fine display against Na Piarsaigh and Mungret. They lost out to Na Piarsaigh by one point and drew with Mungret.

Senior Hurlers: The Senior Hurlers maintained their impressive League form with a 3-22 to 0-10 victory over Knockainey. The game was relatively close for the opening fifteen minutes, before Patrickswell stormed clear to lead by 2-12 to 0-7 at half-time.

The second half continued in the same vein as the ‘Well secured a comfortable victory.

On Saturday April 16, Patrickswell play Monaleen in the City Championship at 4.30pm in the Gaelic Grounds.

Minor hurlers: The Minor Hurlers suffered a narrow 0-14 to 0-12 defeat to Doon in the first match of the Premier Hurling Championship. Their next encounter is away to Garryspillane on Friday April 15 at 6.30pm.

Camogie: The Junior Ladies play Knockaderry on Sunday April 17 at 3.30pm in Patrickswell. Junior training takes place on the astroturf on Monday at 7.30pm and Thursday at 6.30pm.

Senior Hurlers: The Senior hurlers start their All County Hurling League campaign away to Ahane at 6.30pm on Tuesday March 29. The team played a challenge match against Kildangan of Tipperary and lost by a solitary point in a worthwhile fixture.

Camogie: The Junior Ladies drew with Templeglantine 3-8 to 2-11 in their opening fixture. The next match is away to Newcastlewest on Sunday April 3.

Fun Open Day: There was a superb attendance at the Fun Open Day for children aged between 5 and 10. Despite the occasional shower, the weather was largely fine. The children were given a masterclass in fundamental hurling skills by our U-21 stars, Senior stars and former players of both the hurling and camogie clubs. Many thanks to Ger Downes for his attendance.

The children also had the good fortune to meet Micky and Minnie Mouse in the clubhouse. Many thanks to everyone who made the event an unqualified success.

Remember that the U-6 and U-8 boys and girls will train on the astroturf on Friday March 11 at 6.30pm.

Camogie: The first round of the Junior Camogie Championship away to Newcastlewest was postponed due to an unplayable pitch. The match will be refixed for a later date. The next round of the League is fixed for Sunday March 20 against Templeglantine at 3.30pm in Patrickswell.

Fitzgibbon Cup: Congratulations to Mary Immaculate College for winning the Fitzgibbon Cup against the University of Limerick. It was a great achievement for Limerick to have three colleges in the semi-final (also Limerick Institute of Technology). Well done to Cian Lynch and hard luck to Kevin O’Brien and Diarmaid Byrnes.

U-21 hurlers: The U-21 hurlers bowed out of the Premier Hurling Championship after a remarkable 4-12 to 4-12 draw with Ahane.

Fun Open Day: Patrickswell GAA Club is hosting an open day for 5-10 year old boys and girls on Saturday March 5 between 3pm and 5pm in our grounds. The children will get the chance to play with U-21 and senior stars. The event is free and membership is not required. Anyone can attend. Our doors are open.

The U-6, U-8 and U-10s will return to training on Friday March 11 at 6.30pm. New members are most welcome.

The club are seeking old helmets in good condition that are no longer required. Please give any spare helmets to any committee member or bring along to the next training session. The club will store these helmets in the clubhouse and utilise them for children willing to try out our games.

As noted above, the Fun Open Day is on Saturday March 5 between 3pm and 5pm for U-5s to U-10s. This camp is open to members, non-members, other clubs’ members and children interested in trying out for hurling and camogie. Please drop into the Fun Day to meet some of Limerick’s U-21 and senior stars.

U-21 hurlers: Our young team battled bravely in the Premier Hurling Championship against Kilmallock. At half-time, Patrickwell held a three point advantage. Unfortunately Kilmallock rallied in the second half to emerge as 1-11 to 0-11 victors.

The final group match takes place on Tuesday February 23 at 8pm in Staker Wallace against Ahane.

Harty Cup: Congratulations to John Flynn and Josh Considine of Ard Scoil Ris, who won the Harty Cup in Nenagh.

Fitzgibbon Cup: Best wishes to the Patrickswell contingent at University of Limerick, Mary Immaculate College and Limerick Institute of Technology.

Scór: Congratulations to the Patrickswell Senior Set Dancers, who triumphed at the County Final in Askeaton. The team will represent Limerick in the Munster Final on March 5 in Ovens (County Cork).

Camogie: Well done to Emma Barry and the Limerick Minors for their first round championship victory over Wexford. The final score was 3-12 to 2-5.

The Junior Camogie Ladies will open their League campaign away to Newcastlewest on March 6, with a time to be confirmed. Training continues for Minors and Juniors on Mondays at 7.30pm and Thursday at 6.30pm. The U-14s and U-16s will resume training this Saturday February 27 at 5.30pm on the astroturf.

Awards ceremony: The Club hosted an awards ceremony over the weekend to recognise major achievements at Patrickswell GAA.

Firstly, the Patrickswell contingent on the Limerick U-21 All Ireland hurling team were awarded plaques to celebrate their success. Gerry Bennis presented Jack Kelleher, Kevin O’Brien, Diarmaid Byrnes and Cian Lynch with their awards. Aaron Gillane was not present on the night.

Distinguished Service Awards were presented to Tommy Reidy and PJ O’Grady for a lifetime of commitment to the club. They have given so much time and effort for the betterment of Patrickswell GAA.

Club Person of the Year 2015 was given to Breda Leahy, Chairperson of the Camogie Club. Breda is full of energy and always gives 100% commitment to Camogie, fundraising and the Finance Committee. We are delighted to acknowledge her trojan efforts and thank Breda for her diligence.

In the Winter Raffle, John O’Brien, Breda McDermott and Larry Tuohy scooped the prizes.

Juvenile club AGM: The Juvenile Club AGM took place in the clubhouse. Secretary Peter Maher requested volunteers for our Cul Camp on August 22. He also asked managers to reschedule matches in good time and to avoid postponements, if possible.

Chairman Mike Quinn delivered a comprehensive review of the season, from U-6 to U-16. Every team applied themselves extremely well and enjoyed themselves.

Mike congratulated every player who lined out for Limerick and Jason Gillane, Josh Considine and Joachim McGrath for helping Ard Scoil Ris to a Dean Ryan Cup victory. He thanked Kieran Carroll, Ray Fitzgerald and Pa Dundon for their help in his first year as Chairman. Mike also expressed his gratitude to Peter Maher, Jim O’Herlihy, Paddy Carrig, Teresa Carrig, Breda Leahy and Mary Gillane before acknowledging the coaches and parents.

U-21 hurlers: The U-21 hurlers suffered defeat to a very strong Doon team in their opening fixture of the Premier Championship.

The next match is against Kilmallock on Monday February 15 at 8pm in Rathkeale.

Winter Draw: The Club Winter Draw will take place on Saturday February 13 at 9pm in the Cu Chulainn. The first prize is a trip for two people to the Six Nations rugby match against England in London. Flights from Shannon and accommodation are included. The second prize is an Apple iPad and third prize is a beauty hamper. Tickets cost €5.

On the same night, we will hold Club Person of the Year Award and recognise our five members of the Limerick U-21 All Ireland champions.

Club Limerick Draw: In the coming weeks, we will be launching the Club Limerick Draw. It’s €10 per draw or €100 for the entire 10 months. The total prize fund is in excess of €360,000. The Club Limerick Draw guarantees at least 50% funding to Patrickswell GAA. Please sign up to win and support.

Club Membership: Registration evenings have already taken place for Year 2016 membership and more will occur in due course. It is imperative that all players are registered before they play a match.

Camogie AGM: The Camogie Annual General Meeting took place in the clubhouse, with a healthy attendance on the night. Chairperson Breda Leahy thanked the multitude of people who assisted the Camogie Club throughout the year. This included Mike Quinn of the Juvenile Club, Jim O’Herlihy, Paddy Carrig, the Finance Committee, match officials, parents, trainers, managers and coaches. Breda congratulated every age group, from U-6s to Junior Ladies. There was special mention for our Minor County Champions, which was a major achievement for the club. Breda reiterated the need for more people to get involved in the club, no matter how big or small the role.

Secretary Mary Gillane delivered a compelling and detailed Annual Report, which covered every aspect of the club’s season on the pitch. The report was appreciated by the audience and was a testament to Mary’s boundless energy.

Senior Club Chairman Kieran Carroll lauded the success of the Camogie Club on the pitch and thanked them for making Strictly Come Dancing a marvellous event.

Fr. Cussen was complimentary about the positive impact that the Camogie Club had on the community. Anything that strengthens the community is to be admired.

Dave Hennessy was elected as Secretary after Mary Gillane stepped down. Mary has been a tireless worker for the Camogie Club and is held in extremely high regard by her colleagues for her dedication. Marie Carroll was elected to the role of Assistant Secretary, otherwise the officers were unchanged.

Table Quiz: The Patrickswell National School Parents Council Annual Table Quiz takes place in the Cu Chulainn at 8.30pm on Friday January 29. The cost is €20 for a table of four. First Prize is €100 for the winning table.

The school works very closely with Patrickswell GAA in promoting and developing our games. The Parents Council would be delighted to see as many members as possible taking part in the quiz, including past pupils. There is also a raffle on the night and we’d like to thank the local businesses, club and community for donating some fantastic prizes. Everyone is welcome.

Management ratification: At a committee meeting on Wednesday January 13, the following management teams were ratified for 2016. The Senior Hurling Management will comprise Gary Kirby (Manager), Declan Fitzgerald (Coach), Ross Corbett (Strength & Conditioning) and John O’Brien (Selector).

The U-21 Management are John Tuohy and Anthony Carmody, while the Junior A Management are Dessie Foley, Lar Considine and Tom O’Brien.

We’d like to wish all Senior, Juvenile and Camogie management teams the very best of luck for the season ahead.

U-21 Premier Hurling Championship: Patrickswell have been drawn with Kilmallock, Ahane and Doon in the Premier Hurling Championship. There are two groups of four clubs. The first and second place teams in each group will progress to the semi-final.

Camogie: The Camogie 2015 Annual General Meeting will take place on Sunday January 24 at 7.30pm in the clubhouse. All motions and nominations must reach Mary Higgins by Friday January 22. The e-mail address is [email protected]. We are looking forward to seeing all members in attendance.
