Club Notes 2015

Club Annual General Meeting: The Club AGM for 2015 was held in the clubhouse with a healthy attendance present. The meeting started with the Secretary’s Report from Martin Ryan.
Martin delivered a comprehensive review of the club’s matches, from Minor to Senior grade. He congratulated the club’s Inter-County representatives, especially Diarmaid Byrnes for captaining the Limerick All-Ireland winning U-21 side. There was appreciation for the support of Duggan’s Glass as club sponsors, fundraisers, supporters and contributors. Martin was also very complimentary of the Camogie and Juvenile club’s Trojan work. He expressed sympathy to the families of Paddy Foley, Willie Foley, Jack Fitzgerald and Jason Griffin.
Seamus O’Riordan then outlined the club’s financial state of affairs in his Treasurer’s Report. It was a strong year for the club and Patrickswell is certainly moving in the right direction. The members were very enthusiastic about the great strides made in 2015. Seamus thanked Chairman Kieran Carroll, Secretary Martin Ryan and all members of the Finance Committee for the support they have given him. He paid tribute to Mary Gillane, Breda Leahy and Brendan Cawley for the successful Strictly Come Dancing, the Lotto sellers and Club Limerick Development Draw promoters, Maurice Fitzgerald for his cash reconciliation, Duggan’s Glass as sponsors and John McDermott for his support and the use of McDermott’s facilities.
The keynote speech was the Chairman’s Address by Kieran Carroll. Kieran thanked the club’s officers and committee for their support throughout the year. He expressed his immense satisfaction with the club’s financial performance and its adherence to budget. The club has embarked on a journey with much achieved, but plenty of work to come. Kieran called out “Strictly Come Dancing” as an indication of what teamwork and hard graft can achieve. This fundraiser was a runaway success that unified the community.
On the playing field, Kieran spoke of the desire to restore pride and bring back the glory days. He thanked the senior hurling players and management for their superb season, which came up just short at the bitter end. He commented that the “Patrickswell Style” of hurling was back.
The bedrock of the club’s development is the work undertaken by the Juvenile Club and its coaches. Children from U-6 to U-16 are catered for. Kieran complimented the efforts of Chairman Mike Quinn to nurture the youth talent. Another key part of Patrickswell GAA Club is its vibrant camogie club. Kieran acknowledged the dedication of its players and members, especially Breda Leahy and Mary Gillane. The Minor Ladies are County Champions and the Junior Ladies had a great season. The Chairman was also very happy with the presence of Scor in the community.
Every good club must continue to develop its facilities to maintain top-class performances. By partnering with the Community Council, we hope to establish a new GAA pitch with associated community . The capital programme will be expensive, so there will be an increased urgency to raise funds.
Kieran Carroll emphasised the need for respect in any club, a willingness to listen and the fruits of teamwork. When Patrickswell joins together for a common cause, the results are always spectacular. Kieran closed his Chairman’s Address by paying tribute to deceased members, congratulating Gerry Bennis on his appointment as President and thanking the Primary School for its commitment to gaelic games. Unfortunately, the 2015 senior management team have moved on. However, they have set the foundations for success.
Gerry Bennis, the new Club President, addressed the audience for a few minutes. He thanked the club for the honour bestowed on him. Gerry said that Patrickswell was a great club that is known throughout Ireland. He recognised the progress of the senior hurlers, who were desperately unlucky, and the Camogie & Scor teams.
Monsignor Lane congratulated Gerry on his appointment. He highlighted the efficiency of the club’s operations and hoped that silverware was on the horizon. Monsignor Lane identified Patrickswell GAA Club as a beacon that unifies the community and he looked forward to a bright future.
Fr. Cussen recognised that creating a “sense of belonging” is incredibly important. Patrickswell has succeeded in this regard. The GAA is at the heart of both success, tragedy and recovery.
The same officers were returned, namely Chairman Kieran Carroll, Vice Chairman Willie Leahy, Secretary Martin Ryan, Assistant Secretaries Jim O’Herlihy & Bernard Hayes, Treasurer Seamus O’Riordan, Assistant Treasurer John McDermott, PRO James McCarthy, Registrar Valerie Lynch and Language & Culture Officer Muirne Bennis.
Pa Buston was appointed as Junior B Hurling Manager, with Kelvin Lynch as Minor Hurling Manager.
Munster Player of the Year Awards: Congratulations to Cian Lynch and Diarmaid Byrnes for receiving Munster U-21 and Intermediate Players of the Year respectively.
Camogie: Congratulations to Tamara Murray, who completed the U-14 County Camogie six-week development programme at UL.

Scór na nÓg: It was a busy week for the Junior Set Dancers at Scór na nÓg. They travelled to Pallasgrean and won the Limerick County Championship in style. Three days later, the group competed in the Munster semi-final in Cashel. Despite a superb performance, Patrickswell did not progress. Well done to our young dancers.
Annual General Meeting: The Club AGM takes place on Thursday December 10 at 8pm in the clubhouse. All members are welcome.
Community Centre and new GAA pitch: A community meeting on the proposed new development of a community centre and GAA pitch takes place in the Cu Chulainn on Wednesday 9 December at 8pm.
Camogie Development Plan: Another successful meeting was held in the clubhouse to discuss ways to improve the Camogie club in terms of players and membership. Thanks to everyone for their ideas to date.

Jason Griffin Memorial Cycle & Run/Walk: Despite the inclement weather, there was an excellent turnout for the Jason Griffin Memorial Cycle & Run/Walk. There were also dozens of visitors from outside the community that lended their support to this worthy cause.
Many thanks to the organisers, entrants, prize donors, marshals, registrars and those who provided the much-needed food and hot drinks. It was truly heartening to experience the goodwill and supportive attitude of Patrickswell and beyond.
Scór na nÓg: The County Scór na nÓg final will take place in Pallasgreen on Thursday, 3rd December at 7.30pm. Please lend your support to our young dancers.
Camogie Development Meeting: A follow-up meeting to the initial Patrickswell Camogie Development discussion will take place on Wednesday, 2nd December at 9pm in the clubhouse. The first meeting was a great success and we’re always eager to hear your ideas.

Camogie: Congratulations to Ciara O’Brien, Ciara Barry and Leah O’Carroll on making the U-16 Limerick County Panel for 2016.
Many thanks to everyone who attended the Camogie Club Development Meeting in the clubhouse. It was a great success with plenty of good ideas to build upon.
The meeting was split into three groups of eight people. There were four questions posed: how to grow membership, how to increase player numbers, how to develop the club from a players’ perspective and how to develop the club from a coaching perspective.
Jason Griffin Memorial Cycle/Run/Walk: The Jason Griffin Memorial Trust are organising a fundraising 50km cycle or 5km Run/Walk for Sunday November 29. The cycle commences at 10am after registration between 8.30am and 9.30am. The Run/Walk commences at 12.30pm after registration between 11am and noon. Please support this extremely worthwhile cause.

U-21 footballers: The U-21 footballers were beaten by 2-5 to 1-6 in the U-21 County Championship. Their season has now concluded.

Camogie: The Minor Ladies have been crowned as County Champions after a narrow 2-3 to 1-5 victory over Ballyagran. It is a fantastic achievement for the players and a testament to their commitment.

Scór na nÓg: Congratulations to the Junior Set Dancers on reaching the County Final in Caherconlish on Sunday November 22 at 2pm.
U21 football: The U21 footballers were beaten by Fr. Casey’s in the Championship. Their next match is on Wednesday November 18 against Tory Gaels in Rathkeale. The scheduled throw-in is 6.30pm.

U-21 football: The U-21 football match with Tory Gaels did not take place as scheduled. On Friday November 13, the U-21s will play Fr. Caseys at 6.45pm in Mick Neville Park.
Christmas club gear orders: Orders for Patrickswell GAA Club Gear must be received by Louise O’Donnell at 086-0406879 before Monday November 30 to guarantee Christmas delivery.

U-15 County Final: The U-15 hurlers battled bravely in the County Championship Final on Saturday, but lost by 3-13 to 3-6 against a strong Garryspillane side. This was the final match of the Juvenile Club’s season. Hard luck to the players and management.
Scór: A Club Junior Scór night will take place on Saturday November 7 at 7.30pm in the clubhouse. All U-16 singers, dancers, groups of musicians and poetry reciters are welcome. If you have any queries, please contact Muirne Bennis or Mary Shinnors.
Camogie: The Minor ladies beat Na Piarsaigh by 2-6 to 1-6 and qualify for a final against Ballyagran, with a time and date to be decided.
U-21 football: The U-21 footballers are provisionally scheduled to face Tory Gaels on Sunday November 8 at noon in Mungret.

U-15 County Final: The curtain comes down on the Juvenile Club season on Saturday October 31. Patrickswell face Garryspillane at 3.30pm in South Liberties’ Dooley Park. Best of luck to players and management.

To finish off a good year, the Junior Ladies held an Awards Night. Congratulations to Ailis Byrnes who got Young Player of the Year, Julie Darcy who got Players’ Player of the Year and Emma Barry who got Player of the Year. It was a great night and a special thanks to Seamus O’Riordan and John Hogan who sponsored the prizes for the night. Best of luck to the girls for 2016.

Parish League: The end-of-season Parish League was run for the U-6s, U-8s and U-10s over the weekend. There were about eighty children in attendance, who showcased their skills with great energy. Many thanks to everyone who organised the competition and for O’Brien’s Pharmacy for sponsoring it.
U-15 County Final: The U-15 County Final is scheduled for the weekend of October 24, but the date has not been fixed yet.
Camogie: The Minor ladies are playing on Sunday November 1 away to Na Piarsaigh at noon.

Senior hurlers: There was bitter disappointment after Patrickswell’s epic defeat in the County Final against Na Piarsaigh. Cian Lynch opened the scoring for the ‘Well after he cancelled out Na Piarsaigh’s first point. Over the next five minutes, the Caherdavin men exerted some pressure and went 0-4 to 0-1 ahead. Additional points from Cian Lynch and Diarmaid Byrnes forced Patrickswell back into contention; however Na Piarsaigh scored a goal to lead by five points at 1-5 to 0-3.
The next fifteen minutes were very productive for the ‘Well. Lar Considine’s shot struck the upper post and dropped kindly for Kevin O’Brien to score a goal. Within two minutes, Patrickswell bundled another goal over the line. The game was truly in the mix with Patrickswell just 1-9 to 2-4 behind after twenty minutes. The first half closed with an exchange of three points apiece to ensure that Na Piarsaigh reached the interval at 1-12 (15) to 2-7 (13) ahead.
The second half was a rollercoaster of excitement and anguish. Patrickswell’s forwards were now rampant and the tide seemed to turn. In the 32nd minute, Diarmaid Byrnes dispatched a ferocious penalty. Patrickswell had taken the lead for the first time. Within five minutes, Byrnes lined up another penalty and the result was exactly the same. Patrickswell’s fourth goal of the final made the scoreline 4-7 (19) to 1-14 (17) after forty minutes.
The outlook was extremely favourable when Patrickswell notched three unanswered points to establish a five-point lead with fifteen minutes left (4-10 to 1-14). To their credit, Na Piarsaigh drew on their vast experience and plundered four points without reply. The Patrickswell advantage was eroded to one point with just ten minutes left (4-10 to 1-18). Jack Kelleher’s fresh point was a major boost, yet Na Piarsaigh responded with two fresh points to equalise (4-11 to 1-20). The spectators were on the edge of their seats as the tension mounted for the last five minutes.
Diarmaid Byrnes’ point put our noses in front again; however Na Piarsaigh kept their composure and secured two points in the dying minutes. There was confusion when the final whistle was blown with approximately 59:38 on the stadium scoreboard. After consultations with the referee and officials, the result stood at 1-22 to 4-12. The stadium scoreboard was out of sync and the referee’s watch indicated that the allotted match time was played. The outcome was heart-breaking for Patrickswell after their stellar improvements this season. The players and management had thrilled the Limerick hurling community this season and shaken up the landscape. Hard luck. The team had done Patrickswell proud.
Junior Camogie: The Junior ladies were beaten by Shannonside in the County semi-final. Hard luck, ladies.
Parish League: The Parish League is expected to run on Sunday October 18. Further details will be made available when confirmed.

Senior hurlers: The Senior hurlers delivered a magnificent display to defeat Adare in the County Championship semi-final. The opening five minutes were extremely close as both sides scored two points apiece. There was no indication of the storm that was to come. Over the next ten minutes, Patrickswell rattled over seven points to establish a large 0-9 to 0-2 advantage.
Adare managed another point before Lar Considine and Tom O’Brien notched devastating goals in quick succession to make the score 2-10 to 0-3. There were four additional points from Patrickswell as they reached the interval at 2-14 to 0-4 ahead. The spectators were enthralled and stunned in equal measure.
Adare were competitive at the start of the second half as both sides exchanged two points apiece. Unfortunately for our neighbours, the ‘Well commenced another blitz that yielded seven unanswered points. The scoreboard read 2-23 to 0-6 with five minutes remaining. The final stages saw Adare adding two consolation points as Patrickswell triumphed by 2-24 to 0-8.
Sunday October 11 is the County Final against Na Piarsaigh at the Gaelic Grounds and the club’s first senior county final in almost a decade. Best wishes to the players and management. You’ve earned your big chance.
U-14 hurlers: The U-14 hurlers lost by 3-11 to 1-6 against a skilful Ballybrown side in the County semi-final at Rathkeale.
U-21 Team of the Year: Congratulations to Diarmaid Byrnes and Cian Lynch, who were named on the U-21 All-Ireland Team of the Year for 2015.
Camogie: The Junior Ladies beat Shannonside by 6-10 to 4-3 and qualify for a County semi-final against the same opponents on Sunday October 11 at 12 noon in Patrickswell.

Senior hurlers: All roads lead to the Gaelic Grounds as Patrickswell face neighbours Adare in the County Championship semi-final on Sunday October 4 at 3.45pm. This is undoubtedly the biggest club fixture in many years. Best wishes to the players and management. Spectators are asked to display as much colour as possible during the week and at the match.
U-16 hurlers: The U-16 hurlers won the County Shield after a great performance against Monaleen. The ‘Well triumphed by 1-9 to 2-3 and took home the silverware. Congratulations to the players and management.
U-14 hurlers: The U-14 hurlers will face Ballybrown in the County semi-final on Saturday October 3 at 1pm in Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale.
U-13 hurlers: The U-13 hurlers were narrowly defeated by Ballybrown (1-4 to 4-2) in the County Championship and bow out of the competition.
New jersey launch: The club unveiled its new-look jersey at Duggans Windows during the week. The jersey includes a commemorative logo to celebrate the 1965 Championship-winning team.
Camogie: The Junior ladies had a narrow defeat against Newcastlewest and face Shannonside on Wednesday September 30 at 6.15pm in Mungret. The U-10 girls had a great win over Tulla in a challenge match in Patrickswell. It was a great game. Thanks to everyone who helped out with tea and cakes afterwards.

Senior hurlers: The County Hurling Championship semi-final is likely to be postponed as a result of Adare and Ahane’s draw.
Jackie Houlihan Memorial Race: The inaugaral Jackie Houlihan Memorial Race was won by Niamh O’Sullivan from An Riocht AC in Kerry. Second place was Finbar O’Brien from Patrickswell, with Mary O’Connor from An Riocht AC in third place. Many thanks to everyone who participated in the race.
U-13 hurlers: The U-13 hurlers produced a superb display to beat Bruff by 4-11 to 1-5 in the County Championship. Their next fixture is on Wednesday September 23 away to Ballybrown at 6.15pm.
U-14 hurlers: The U-14 hurlers will play Ballybrown on Saturday October 3 in the Championship.
Camogie: Hard luck to the U-16 girls, who lost the County Shield Final against Killeedy. The Junior Ladies’ Championship fixture against Shannonside was postponed. The date of refixture will be confirmed.
The U-12 girls play Treaty Gaels on Thursday September 24 at 6.30pm in Patrickswell. Congratulations to the U-10 girls for topping their group at the All-County blitz. They beat Ballyagran & Treaty Gaels before bowing out to eventual winners Crecora in the quarter-final.

Limerick U-21 hurlers: Congratulations to the Limerick U-21 hurlers, who comprehensively won the All-Ireland Championship in Thurles against Wexford. Patrickswell’s Diarmaid Byrnes lifted the “Cross of Cashel” in front of the celebrating Limerick crowd. Well done to the Patrickswell club men who played their full part in the triumph.
Jackie Houlihan Memorial Race: The inaugural Jackie Houlihan Memorial Race takes place at Limerick Racecourse on Saturday September 19. Adult admission is €10 and that race begins at 1pm over 8,000 metres. U-16 admission is €5 and begins at 12.15pm over 3,000 metres. Free t-shirts are awarded to the first 400 registrants. Online registration is available at www.eventmaster.ie or at the venue before the race.
There will be prizes and Kiddies Races also. If called upon to volunteer, please lend a hand. Juvenile, camogie and adult players are encouraged to participate in the race.
Junior A footballers: Unfortunately, the Junior A season has ended after Patrickswell awarded a walkover to Kildimo-Pallaskenry is the City semi-final.
Camogie: The U-12 girls lost to Knockaderry by a goal. They host Blackrock/Effin on Thursday September 17 in Patrickswell at 6.30pm. The U-16 County Shield final against Killeedy is on Friday September 18 at a time and date to be confirmed.
The U-10 girls participate in a County Blitz in University of Limerick at 10am on Saturday September 19. The Junior Ladies play Shannonside away on Sunday September 20 at 4pm, with the venue to be confirmed.
U-13 hurlers: In the opening pool match of the Championship, Patrickswell recorded a fine 2-6 to 1-5 victory over neighbours Adare. Their next match is on Wednesday September 16 away to Bruff at 6.15pm.

Minor hurlers: The Minor hurlers were defeated by a strong Doon side in the Premier Hurling Championship quarter-final in Bruff. Hard luck to the team and management.
Junior Footballers: The Junior footballers will face Kildimo-Pallaskenry in the City Championship semi-final on Monday September 14 at 6.30pm in Clarina.
U-16 hurlers: The U-16 hurlers delivered a superb performance to beat Ahane by 7-19 to 3-10 in the County Shield semi-final.
U-14 hurlers: Patrickswell defeated Kilpeacon by 2-12 to 3-7 in the County Shield.
U-13 hurlers: The U-13 Hurling Championship starts on Wednesday September 9 against Adare at 6.15pm in Patrickswell.
Camogie: The U-16 girls produced a magnificent display to beat Croagh Kilfinny by 6-5 to 0-2. Patrickswell are now into the County Shield Final against Killeedy with a date to be confirmed.
The U-8 girls visited Killeedy for a County Camogie blitz. The girls had a great time and performed extremely well. Many thanks to Killeedy for organising the blitz with such great efficiency.
The U-10 girls will take part in a County Blitz on Saturday September 19 in University of Limerick. The U-12s received a walkover from Tournafulla and will travel to Knockaderry on Thursday September 10 at 6.30pm. On Thursday September 17, the U-12s welcome Treaty Gaels to Patrickswell.
U-21 All Ireland Hurling Final: Best wishes to the Limerick hurlers for the All-Ireland final against Wexford on Saturday September 12 in Thurles.
Jackie Houlihan Memorial Race: Online Registration for the Jackie Houlihan Memorial race on Saturday September 19 is available at www.Eventmaster.ie . The adult race is now just €10 and starts at 1pm (8,000 metres). The U-16 race is only €5 and starts at 12.15pm over 3,000 metres. Our venue is Limerick Racecourse.

Senior hurlers: Patrickswell produced a resolute display to beat holders Kilmallock in the final pool match of the County Championship. The victory sent the ‘Well directly into the County semi-final.
Cian Lynch opened the scoring with a point after twenty seconds, but Kilmallock equalised immediately. Lar Considine and Cian Lynch helped to establish a 0-3 to 0-1 advantage, before Kevin O’Brien struck the net from close range. When Aaron Gillane struck a point, the scoreboard displayed a healthy 1-4 to 0-2 margin. Kilmallock were able to edge back into the match and narrowed the gap at 1-5 to 0-5. However, Patrickswell increased their tempo and surged ahead with points from Jack Kelleher (0-2) and Aaron Gillane. The lead was six points with five minutes to play in the opening half. Kilmallock closed the half strongly and trailed at half-time by 1-10 to 0-9.
The second half was a riveting spectacle. The teams exchanged one point apiece in the opening stages. Kilmallock showed their champions pedigree with four consecutive points to draw level at 1-11 to 0-14. It seemed that Kilmallock would take charge, but Andrew Carroll and Peter Harty scored points to establish a 1-13 to 0-14 lead. Once again, the Balbec found another gear and drew level with fifteen minutes to play. Tom O’Brien and Lar Considine’s points were cancelled out in quick succession as the teams remained inseparable at 1-15 to 0-18.
Patrickswell created some daylight when Aaron Gillane and Mark Carmody added points, but Kilmallock reduced the deficit with a point. With the match almost over, Patrickswell led by 1-17 to 0-19. Substitute Timmy Sheehan surged forward to strike a decisive point that brought a cheer from the Patrickswell support. Deep in injury time, Kilmallock were awarded a dangerous free. The Patrickswell defence stood firm and cleared the danger. When the referee blew the final whistle, the ‘Well had edged an epic encounter by 1-18 to 0-19. Congratulations to the players and management.
Minor hurlers: The Minor hurlers face Doon in the Premier Championship quarter-final on Saturday September 5 at 4.45pm in Bruff.
Junior A hurlers: The Junior A hurlers lost to Na Piarsaigh by 1-15 to 1-11 in the City Championship semi-final. Hard luck to the players and management.
Junior B hurlers: The Junior B hurlers drew with Ballybrown and lost to Na Piarsaigh in the City Championship. As a result, Patrickswell are eliminated.
Junior A footballers: The Junior A footballers play Kildimo-Pallaskenry in the City Championship semi-final in Clarina at 6pm on Saturday September 5.
Camogie: The U-8 girls will play in the All-County blitz on Saturday September 5 in Kileedy at 10am. The U-12 girls are away to Tournafulla on Thursday September 3 at 7pm and also away to Knockaderry on Thursday September 10 at 7pm.
The U-14 girls have qualified for the County Shield Final against Adare on Tuesday September 8, with the time and venue to be confirmed. The U-16 girls take on Croagh-Kilfinny on Friday September 4 at 6.30pm in Patrickswell for the County Shield semi-final.
Well done to the Junior Ladies for their superb performance in a 4-5 to 3-4 victory over Knockaderry.
Jackie Houlihan Memorial Race: The Jackie Houlihan Memorial Race is on Saturday September 19 starting at the racecourse. Online registration is available at www.eventmaster.ie but payment can also be made on the morning of the event. The U-16 race begins at 12.15pm and costs €5. The Adult race commences at 1pm and costs a bargain €10.
U-16 hurlers: The U-16 hurlers face Ahane in the County Shield on Monday August 31 at 7pm in Patrickswell.
U-14 hurlers: The U-14 hurlers play Kilpeacon on Saturday September 5 at 11am in Patrickswell.
U-10 hurlers: The boys played Kildimo U10’s last Friday. They played very well and are back training this coming Friday the 4th of September.
Inter-County Juveniles: Congratulations to every Patrickswell juvenile who lined out for Limerick over the weekend.
Limerick Development Draw: Well done to John Flynn, who scooped €250 in the Limerick Development Draw.

Senior hurlers: On Sunday August 30th, the Senior hurlers face Kilmallock in Bruff at 1pm. This is the final group match and both clubs have 100% records. The winner will move directly to the semi-final, while the loser will enter the quarter-final. This is the biggest match of the club’s season so far. Your support is greatly required for the match.
Limerick U-21 hurlers: Congratulations to Limerick’s U-21 hurlers for their great display against Galway in the All-Ireland semi-final. We are proud of the county and its Patrickswell representation.
Junior A hurlers: At the time of writing, the Junior A hurlers are scheduled to play Na Piarsaigh in the City Championship semi-final on Saturday August 29 at 4pm in Childers Road.

Jackie Houlihan Memorial Race: Patrickswell GAA Club and the Community Council are organising the Jackie Houlihan Memorial Race on Saturday September 19. Senior hurlers: Patrickswell were defeated by Na Piarsaigh in their final group match of the All-County Hurling League.
Junior A hurlers: The Junior A hurlers forced their way back into contention in the City Championship after a narrow 1-13 to 1-12 win over Crecora in Mungret. The ‘Well need other matches to work in their favour to progress into the knockout stages.
Junior B hurlers: The Junior B hurlers are embarking on a busy schedule in the City Championship. On Tuesday August 18, Patrickswell welcome neighbours Ballybrown at 7pm. On Sunday August 23, we are also at home to Kildimo Pallaskenry at noon. On Thursday August 27, the Junior Bs will visit Caherdavin to play Na Piarsaigh at 6.30pm.

U-16 hurlers: The U-16 hurlers lost to Kilmallock by 4-15 to 3-13. They will contest the U-16 Shield against Ahane in Patrickswell on Monday August 31 at 7pm.
U-14 hurlers: The U-14 hurlers drew with Kilpeacon, 2-13 to 3-10, in the Championship. On Wednesday August 19, Patrickswell hosts Na Piarsaigh.
Camogie: On Sunday August 23, the Minor ladies begin their Championship away to Croagh Kilfinny at noon. On Tuesday August 25, our U-14s are home to Monaleen in the first round of their Championship. Congratulations to Orla Harty on reaching the U-15 All Ireland County Camogie semi-final.

Senior hurlers: The Senior hurlers participated in the final of the Morrissey Cup, hosted by Castletown Ballyagran GAA Club. In the final, Patrickswell lost to Newtownshandrum. On Tuesday August 11, Patrickswell are slated to play Na Piarsaigh in the All-County Hurling League in Caherdavin at 7.30pm.
Minor hurlers: The Minor hurlers experienced a very busy few days in the Premier Championship. The first match of the week was a 2-15 to 2-9 defeat to Murroe-Boher. Just three days later, the boys lost out to Kilmallock by 1-21 to 3-9.
Junior A hurlers: The Junior A hurlers suffered two defeats during the week in their Championship. St. Patrick’s beat Patrickswell by 1-10 to 0-10 on the Bank Holiday. Ballybrown overcame the ‘Well by 2-14 to 0-15 in Crecora. Our next scheduled match is against Crecora in Mungret on Saturday August 15 at 7pm.
Junior B hurlers: The Junior B hurlers gave a walkover to Monaleen in the City Championship. Our next game is scheduled for Tuesday August 18 at 7pm against Ballybrown in Patrickswell.

Senior hurlers: Patrickswell took another step towards the County Championship semi-final after a 0-17 to 0-9 victory over South Liberties. Our previous three matches had been characterised by high-octane starts and goalscoring; however this match produced a more gritty display from the ‘Well.
South Liberties opened their account within ten seconds of the throw-in, but points from Peter Harty and Jack Kelleher (0-2) established a 0-3 to 0-1 advantage after five minutes. Patrickswell began to assume control when Jack Kelleher (0-2), Mark Carmody and Lar Cosnsidine extended the margin to 0-7 to 0-3. South Liberties trimmed the deficit by two points before Jack Kelleher increased his tally with another two points. At the interval, the ‘Well led by 0-9 to 0-6.
The second half commenced with a superb point from a Diarmuid Byrnes free. There was a lull of ten minutes without a score before the ‘Well effectively sewed up the contest with points from Considine, Kelleher and Harty. The scoreboard displayed 0-13 to 0-8 with just ten minutes remaining. Tom O’Brien, Harty and Byrnes put the match beyond doubt with fresh points, before Jack Kelleher wrapped up the match with a final score. While there were few goalscoring opportunities, the result was secured and Patrickswell sit atop their pool. The automatic semi-final berth will be decided in the “winner takes all” final group match against Kilmallock.
Minor hurlers: The Minor hurlers face two matches in the space of three days. On Tuesday August 4, the boys travel to Boher to face Murroe-Boher at 7pm. On Friday August 7, we entertain Kilmallock at 7pm.

Senior hurlers: Our Senior hurlers face South Liberties in the fourth match of the Championship on Sunday August 2 at 2pm in the Gaelic Grounds. Please support the team for this very important match.
Junior A footballers: Our Junior A footballers secured an important victory over Mungret in the City Championship. The first half witnessed few scoring chances as Patrickswell reached the interval at 1-1 to 0-3 ahead (Paul O’Brien 1-1).
The second half produced more attacking play from both teams. Mungret levelled the scores at 1-1 to 0-4, before points from Mark Carmody and Lar Considine established a two-point lead at 1-3 to 0-4. Mungret took the lead for the first time when they scored a goal from a shot that rattled the crossbar and broke kindly.
Patrickswell regained their composure and took control again with three consecutive points to lead by 1-6 to 1-4 with fifteen minutes left. Mungret added a point before Mark Carmody (0-1) and Lar Considine (0-2) opened a vital 1-9 to 1-5 lead with five minutes left. The game closed out with two points from Mungret; however they had run out of time and the’Well triumphed by 1-9 to 1-7.
Junior B hurlers: The Junior B hurlers suffered a 0-14 to 0-11 defeat to Mungret in their second Championship match.

Minor hurlers: The Minor hurlers had an emphatic 3-28 to 0-7 victory over Deel Rangers in the Premier Championship. Patrickswell are now top of the table with two resounding victories.
Junior A hurlers: The Junior A hurlers suffered a 0-16 to 1-7 defeat to Na Piarsaigh in the City Championship. The match against St. Patrick’s that was scheduled for Saturday July 25 is being refixed.
Junior B hurlers: The Junior B hurlers are scheduled to play Mungret away on Sunday July 26 at noon, but this game is now subject to change.
Junior A footballers: The Junior A footballers were narrowly defeated 2-11 to 2-10 by Monaleen in the City Championship. On Thursday July 23, Patrickswell face Mungret in Clarina at 7pm.

Camogie: The U-6 and U-8 camogie and hurling players are taking a two-week break until Friday August 7.
Well done to Gary Kirby and the Patrickswell representatives on a great U-16 victory over Wexford in Round 3 of the All-Ireland championship.

Senior hurlers: The Senior hurlers delivered a comprehensive second-half performance to beat Doon in the All-County Hurling League. Doon were ahead through most of the first half, but the ‘Well struck five unanswered points before the interval to reach half-time at level pegging. At the start of the second half, Patrickswell’s purple patch continued as we started to build a lead over the East side. By the middle of the second half, Patrickswell were nine points ahead and closed out with a 1-20 to 2-9 victory. We are now comfortably on top of our group.

U-16 hurlers: The U-16 hurlers maintained their 100% record with a fine 3-21 to 2-9 victory over Ballyhoura Gaels. Their next scheduled match is on Monday July 13 at 7.15pm against Mungret St Pauls at home.
Camogie: Our Junior girls travelled to Thurles on Saturday last for a seven-a-side tournament. They played extremely well in their three closely contested matches. Well done to all involved.
Well done to Gary Kirby, Leah O’Carroll, Ciara O’Brien, Ciara Barry and Jane Kirby, who represented Patrickswell on the Limerick U-16 team who played Dublin in the championship on Sunday. Dublin came out on top in the end.
Minor hurlers: The success of the Limerick Minors has postponed Patrickswell’s meeting with Deel Rangers to Tuesday July 14 at 7.30pm in Patrickswell.
Cian and Seanie’s academy: Seanie O’Brien and Cian Lynch are running a hurling and camogie camp for 5-16 year olds in the field from Monday 13 July to Friday 17 July (10am to 2pm). There will be a separate academy group for 13-16 year olds to include coaching & advice on lifestyle choices, diet, conditioning and match preparation. The cost is €35 per person. Senior hurlers: The Senior hurlers produced another high octane start to defeat Ahane in the County Senior Hurling Championship. The ‘Well raced into a 2-5 to 0-2 lead within fifteen minutes after Lar Considine and Kevin O’Brien struck the net. Ahane were able to stem the tide and battled back into the game with five unanswered points to close the gap to just four points (2-5 to 0-7). However, Patrickswell snuffed out the recovery with points from Jack Kelleher and Tom O’Brien. The half-time score was 2-7 to 0-8.
The second half began with a flurry of three Patrickswell points from Cian Lynch, Kevin O’Brien and Jack Kelleher. The advantage was now eight points and more comfortable. There was an exchange of four points from both sides in the middle of the half as the ‘Well maintained their lead at 2-14 to 0-12. Ahane sneaked a goal in the final five minutes to reduce the arrears to 2-15 to 1-12. There was no grandstand finish as Patrickswell closed the door with three consecutive points to win by nine points at 2-18 to 1-12. Patrickswell have recorded three victories and have two matches against South Liberties and Kilmallock to play.
The senior hurlers are scheduled to meet Doon in the league on Saturday July 4 at 7.30pm at home.
U-14 hurlers: The U-14 hurlers chalked up a 1-9 to 1-6 victory over Adare in the County Championship.
Camogie: The Junior ladies played in the “Marie Hackett” seven-a-side tournament last Saturday. They played Na Piarsaigh of Cork and Moneygall before qualifying for semi-final. Patrickswell took part in a very competitive game before bowing out to the overall winners Kildangan, the host club.
The U-12 girls finished off their League campaign against Monaleen with fine performances from some very young players. Well done on a very successful league. As the camogie league has come to a finish, we now await for championships to begin from U-14 to Junior grade in August.
The U-10s played their final blitz in Monaleen last Saturday and played magnificently in all three matches. Well done to everyone. U-6, U-8 and U-10 training continues every Friday night at 6.30pm.

Senior hurlers: The Senior hurlers reached the top of the All-County Hurling League with two away wins in the space of 48 hours. The first victory was an emphatic 3-16 to 3-11 win over neighbours Adare. The next assignment was against Murroe Boher and the ‘Well emerged as 2-17 to 0-16 winners after a strong second half display.
The Championship takes centre stage on Saturday June 27 against Ahane in Claughaun at 7.30pm. Patrickswell have a 100% record and will take a giants step to the knockout stages with a victory. Please make a big effort to support.
Junior A hurlers: The Junior A hurlers begin the City Championship by playing Old Christians in Ballybrown on Saturday June 27. This game is subject to change, due to the senior hurling championship.
U-16 hurlers: On Monday June 29, the U-16 Championship makes a welcome return after the examination break. Patrickswell entertain Ballyhoura Gaels at 7.15pm at home.
U-14 hurlers: The U-14 hurlers meet Adare at home on Wednesday June 24 at 7.15pm. The boys were involved in Regional Feile over the weekend, where they beat Ballyheigue and lost to Newtown and Corofin.
Inter-County hurling: Hard luck to the Limerick senior hurlers after their semi-final defeat to Tipperary in the Munster Championship. On a brighter note, Patrickswell’s contingent contributed to Limerick’s Intermediate victory over the Premier County.
Well done to Limerick’s senior camogie team, who beat Offaly by 1-12 to 1-8 in the Championship.

Junior A hurlers: The Junior A hurlers were beaten in the City League semi-final by neighbours Ballybrown. The first half was a competitive affair, with Patrickswell building a healthy lead and Ballybrown recovering before half-time. After fifteen minutes, the ‘Well led by 0-8 to 1-0 as we plundered seven points without reply. Ballybrown closed out the first half with four consecutive points. At the interval, the score was 0-9 to 1-4 for Patrickswell.
The second half was determined by Ballybrown’s goals. After forty minutes, Patrickswell held a commanding 0-13 to 1-5 lead. The game was turned on its head when Ballybrown struck two goals in a three-minute spree. The Clarina men were now level at 0-14 to 3-5. The last fifteen minutes saw Ballybrown outpoint the ‘Well by 0-4 to 0-2 and run out 3-9 to 0-16 victors.
U-14 hurlers: The U-14 hurlers were beaten by Doon in the County Championship.
U-10 hurlers: On Saturday June 13, Patrickswell U-10s took part in the U10 Hurling Tournament at the Moycarkey Borris GAA Grounds in Littleton, Co Tipperary. The boys played 4 games against Moycarkey Borris of Tipperary, Ballingarry of Tipperary, Borrisoleigh of Tipperary and Na Piarsaigh of Limerick The boys were brilliant and played outstanding hurling in all 4 games.
Well done to the 11 players: Mark Fitzgerald, Christy Carroll, Matt Daly, Paddy McGrath, Billy Earls, Harry McDonagh, Liam Fitzgerald, Hugh Maher, Greg Ramendik, Cathal Fitzgerald and Dale McDonagh.
Camogie: Well done to the U-12 girls, who beat Crecora by 3-0 to 0-0 score last Thursday. They play Monaleen in the last round of the league.
Congratulations to Emma Ryan. Emma was picked for the Primary Games, which take place on Sunday June 21 in the Gaelic grounds at half-time during the Munster semi-final beetween Limerick and Tipperary.
Patrickswell hosted the U-10 camogie blitz last Friday evening. Patrickswell won all their games, beating off strong competition from Monaleen, Na Piarsaigh and Mungret. Great camogie was played by all teams. Well Done!!!!

Senior hurlers: The Senior Hurlers beat Charleville in the invitational Morrissey Cup, organised by Castletown Ballyagran GAA Club.
Junior B hurlers: The Junior B hurlers suffered defeat in the City League Final against a strong Na Piarsaigh team. The game started in a very competitive manner, with the scores level after ten minutes at 1-1 to 0-4. However, the Caherdavin outfit produced a devastating spell of 0-6 without reply to establish a commanding lead of 0-10 to 1-1 at half-time.
The second half began with Na Piarsaigh stretching their lead considerably. By the fifty minute mark, the scoreline was 1-17 to 1-2. Patrickswell fought back in the closing stages with two goals, but the final result was a 1-20 to 3-3 defeat. Hard luck to the players and management. Earlier in the week, the Junior Bs had defeated Crecora in the semi-final.

Senior hurlers: The Senior hurlers produced a formidable attacking display to defeat Murroe Boher in the County Championship. Kevin O’Brien raced through to score a goal within two minutes of the throw-in. Patrickswell were relentless up front, as the opposition struggled to manage the tempo. After fifteen minutes, both Kevin and Tom O’Brien had notched additional goals as the ‘Well established a 3-3 to 0-3 advantage.
The scene was set for a comfortable victory; however Murroe-Boher grew into the match and scored six points without reply. After twenty minutes, the margin was reduced to three points at 3-3 to 0-9. Patrickswell were alert to the danger and found another gear to stifle the threat. Tom O’Brien and Lar Considine plundered another 1-1 each and Aaron Gillane scored his first point to make the half-time score 5-6 to 0-12.
The second half saw the goal-rush dry up, but the ‘Well started to accumulate points frequently. There were new names on the scoresheet as Mark Carmody, Jack Kelleher, Owen McNamara and Timmy Sheehan fired over points. At the fifty minute mark, Patrickswell were cruising at 5-14 to 0-16 – a lead of thirteen points. Lar Considine joined the O’Brien brothers on a hat-trick and Mark Carmody’s point secured a comprehensive 6-15 to 0-16 victory.
The Senior hurlers are scheduled to face Adare away in the League on Tuesday June 2 at 7.30pm.

Liam Fenton Memorial 5k: The Liam Fenton Memorial 5k Run/Walk takes place on Sunday May 31 at 1pm. Registration occurs in the Cu Chulainn Bar from noon on Sunday and this will be the start point of the race. All proceeds will be for the Irish Heart Foundation. There is a barbecue, music and entertainment after the race in the Cú.

Junior B Hurling League: The Junior B hurlers had a very productive week as they defeated Claughaun away, before beating Na Piarsaigh by a solitary point (2-12 to 1-14) just two days later. The ‘Well have three victories and a 100% record to their name. Their next game is at home to Crecora on Thursday 21 May at 7.30pm.
U-14 hurlers: The U-14 hurlers travel to Mungret on Wednesday May 20 at 6.30pm for their opening Championship fixture.

Junior A hurlers: The Junior A hurlers were defeated by a strong Crecora team, despite a gritty performance. Our neighbours held an eight point advantage at half-time (2-11 to 2-3). In the second half, Patrickswell surged back into the contest, but lost by 3-15 to 4-7.
The next scheduled match is on Saturday May 16 at home to Kildimo Pallaskenry at 7pm.
Junior B hurlers: The Junior B hurlers made a winning start to the City League after a 2-13 to 2-10 victory over Ballybrown. The opening ten minutes were keenly contested as both teams exchanged two points apiece. However, Patrickswell experienced a superb “purple patch” and pulled away to lead by 2-9 to 0-4 at the interval.
Ballybrown attempted to close the gap at the start of the second half, but Patrickswell kept them at arm’s length. There were ten minutes left in the match and the score was 2-13 to 0-9. From the spectators’ viewpoint, the ‘Well seemed comfortable winners. However, Ballybrown set up a grandstand finale when they scored 2-1 without reply in a five-minute burst. There was a sense of relief as Patrickswell held firm to win by 2-13 to 2-10.
The next scheduled matches are on Wednesday May 13 away to Claughaun at 7.30pm and Sunday May 17 away to Na Piarsaigh at noon.
U-15 hurlers: The U-15 hurlers had an emphatic 4-10 to 1-1 win against Croagh in the Championship. Patrickswell will now face Garryspillane in the final.
Camogie: The U-12 girls play Treaty Gaels on Thursday May 14 at 6pm in Patrickswell. The U-8s host a blitz on home soil on Saturday May 16 at 11am

William Foley (Club President): The club was devastated to hear about the sad passing of Willie Foley, our Club President. We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to his wife Chris, his daughter Christine and to their entire family. Willie was a gentleman and stalwart of the club. May he rest in peace.
Senior hurlers: Patrickswell made a solid start to the County Championship with a comfortable victory over Effin. The sides exchanged early points before the ‘Well began to dominate possession and create scoring chances. Tom O’Brien nicked an early goal, while the forwards and midfielders contributed to establish a 1-7 to 0-2 lead after 25 minutes. Effin narrowed the lead with a goal, but Cian Lynch and Lar Considine’s points wrapped up the first half at 1-9 to 1-2.
The second half was a controlled performance by the ‘Well. Four unanswered points gave Ciaran Carey’s side an eleven point cushion (1-13 to 1-2) after forty minutes. Unfortunately for Effin, Kevin O’Brien was in sparkling form and his goal brought the scoreboard to 2-15 to 1-4. Patrickswell could have rested on their laurels with the result beyond doubt; however the scoring chances kept coming. When Kevin hit the net again, his team were 3-19 to 1-6 ahead. There was still enough time to add five points and seal a 3-24 to 1-7 triumph.

U-16 hurling: The U-16 hurlers made a strong start to their Championship, winning 4-9 to 3-9 away to Bruff.

The U-16 girls beat Monaleen by 3-3 to 2-1. Congratulations to the team, who played extremely well to secure the League victory.

Strictly Come Dancing: The Strictly Come Dancing extravaganza finally arrived in town, following months of preparation. The event did not disappoint. The Limerick Racecourse venue was packed to capacity as the thirteen pairs delivered a great night of entertainment. When all the votes had been counted, Mike Shinnors and Louise Foley were crowned as the popular winners.
Many thanks to everyone who helped make this event a great success for the club and community – the dancers, the organising committee, the photographers, ticket sellers, the stewards, the judges, the Racecourse staff, etc. The list is endless, but you know who you are! Senior hurlers: The Senior hurlers recorded a fine 2-17 to 0-15 victory over Kilmallock in the All County Hurling League. The first half was dominated by Patrickswell as they controlled possession and profited from their scoring chances. Kevin O’Brien hit the net within five minutes and set the tone for the remainder of the half. While Kilmallock were constrained to four points, the ‘Well plundered ten points of their own from various positions. The half-time score was 1-10 to 0-4.
The second half was a more competitive affair. Kilmallock bagged six points without reply and trimmed the significant lead to just three points. A point from Andrew Carroll stopped the onslaught. For the subsequent ten minutes, the teams traded four points apiece to leave the score at 1-15 to 0-14. Kilmallock were still in contention until Andrew Carroll scored Patrickswell’s second goal and the home side closed out the game as 2-17 to 0-15 winners.
Junior A hurlers: The Junior A hurlers opened their City Junior A League campaign with a superb 2-17 to 0-6 win over Monaleen.
Junior A footballers: The Junior A footballers play St. Patrick’s at home in the City League on Thursday April 23 at 7pm.
U-15 hurlers: The U-15 hurlers started their Championship with a high-scoring 4-12 to 0-5 win against Bruff.

Strictly Come Dancing: The highlight of the club’s week is the widely anticipated “Strictly Come Dancing” event at Limerick Racecourse on Saturday April 18 at 8pm. The dancers have been training extremely hard and need your vocal support on the night. Admission is €20. Our MC for the evening is Lorcan Murray and the post-entertainment is DJ Bomba. Pre-Voting and votes on the night will also take place.

Senior hurlers: Our Senior hurlers were defeated by Ballybrown in the City Hurling Championship semi-final. The fixture also doubled as All County Hurling League. The match was very close for the first twenty minutes, when Patrickswell led by 1-5 to 0-7. However, Ballybrown enjoyed a purple patch just before half-time and took a 1-12 to 1-7 advantage to the interval.
The second half began with a flurry of points by both sides. Patrickswell were unable to narrow the lead and trailed by 1-17 to 1-11 with fifteen minutes remaining. Ballybrown increased the tempo and pulled away to win by 1-22 to 1-13.
Patrickswell are scheduled to play Kilmallock at home on Thursday April 16 at 7pm.
Minor hurlers: The Minor hurlers recorded an impressive 2-10 to 0-2 win away to Newcastlewest. Due to fixture scheduling, the Minors won’t play competitively again until July.
U-15 hurlers: The U-15 hurlers play Bruff at home on Wednesday April 15 at 6.45pm in Patrickswell.
Junior A hurlers: The Junior A hurlers are tentatively playing Monaleen away in the City League, possibly on Friday April 17.
Junior B hurlers: The Junior B hurlers entertain Crecora at noon on Sunday April 19 in the City League, although this is subject to change.
Camogie: The U-14 girls play Blackrock-Effin on Tuesday April 14 at 6.30pm. The U-12 girls played their first blitz of the year in Boher last Saturday. The U-16 girls played Kileedy in the first round yesterday amd were defeated.
Limerick Development Draw: Lucky ladies Angela Kirby and Gillian McDermott scooped €250 prizes in the Limerick Development Draw.

U-21 hurlers: The U-21 hurlers suffered defeat in the Premier Championship semi-final against Doon at the Gaelic Grounds.
Doon took full advantage of the stiff tailwind and hemmed Patrickswell inside their own 65-yard line for the opening twenty minutes. During this period, the East club racked up a devastating 2-9 without reply. Diarmuid Byrnes, Jack Kelleher and Cian Lynch scored points to mount a fightback, but Doon struck three unanswered points to hold a commanding 2-12 to 0-3 halftime lead.
Patrickswell had the wind in their favour during the second half, but they couldn’t erode the deficit quickly enough. Doon were content to minimise the damage and stifle the ‘Well attacks. Cian Lynch scored a goal, while Diarmuid Byrnes (0-2) and Paul O’Brien (0-1) slashed the arrears to nine points at 2-12 to 1-6. Time was running out as both sides exchanged two points apiece to finish 2-14 to 1-8.
Hard luck to the players and management. The performance was determined by the elements and not a fair reflection on the season to date.

Senior hurlers: The Senior hurlers made a winning start to the All-County Hurling League against Ahane. Patrickswell were dominant in the first half and established a solid 1-12 to 0-8 lead at the interval. At the beginning of the second half, three points apiece were exchanged to bring the scoreline to 1-15 to 0-11.
As expected, Ahane surged forward and put the ‘Well on the back foot. The visitors experienced a purple patch and equalised at 1-15 to 1-15 with a flurry of one goal and four points without reply. Thankfully, Patrickswell managed to stem the tide and closed out the match with four late points. The final score was a 1-19 to 1-16 victory.
Strictly Come Dancing: On Saturday April 18 at 8pm, the club will host a “Strictly Come Dancing” extravaganza at the Racecourse.
This is a major fundraiser for the club and it will be a fantastic evening of dancing and socialising. Tickets at €20 are available from the Dancers, Local Shops and Committee Members. Public Voting for dancers will be taken on the night. The dancers have been training intensely and need your support. They have invested a huge amount of time into the venture. Please attend this big occasion.
Féile na nGael: Our U-14 hurlers face Na Piarsaigh in the Feile semi-final at 5.45pm in Caherdavin on Monday March 23.
Camogie: Underage training is beginning to start up again for 2015. U-12s are already back and training hard. The U-10s started back last Friday and will continue to train every Friday at 6pm. The U-8s and U-6s will resume training shortly.
The U-16 match is postponed for next Friday March 27.
The U-14 girls play Granagh Ballingarry on Tuesday March 24 at 6pm in Patrickswell. On Tuesday March 31, the girls play Galbally at 6pm in Patrickswell also.
The U-12 girls will play their first blitz of the year in Mungret on Saturday March 28 with a time to be confirmed.

U-21 hurling: The U-21 hurlers progressed to the County semi-final after a 2-19 to 0-7 victory over Ballybrown in Rhebogue. The opening fifteen minutes were competitive as both teams scored four points apiece. However, Cian Lynch’s sublime goal on twenty minutes allowed Patrickswell to pull away from their parish neighbours. The remainder of the first half was dominated by the ‘Well. The half-time score was 1-9 to 0-5 in our favour.
Patrickswell did not hold back in the second half. There were robust performances in every position. Jack Kelleher (0-4), Diarmuid Byrnes (0-2) and Aaron Gillane (0-1) had established a 1-16 to 0-6 advantage before Paul O’Brien scored a close-range goal to cap a fine display. The match ended with three unanswered points from the ‘Well and a result of 2-19 to 0-7.
Camogie: The U-14 girls play their first League match on Tuesday March 24 at home against Granagh Ballingarry at 6pm. A ‘Child Protection in Sports’ awareness course takes place in the clubhouse on Thursday March 19 at 7pm. All coaches are welcome.
Underage training will recommence in the near future. New players are most welcome.
Fitzgibbon Cup: Congratulations to Kevin O’Brien and Mark Carmody on winning the Fitzgibbon Cup for University of Limerick. It was a long and hard campaign, but a successful one.

U-21 hurling: The U-21 hurlers secured their third consecutive victory in the Premier Hurling Championship after beating Adare by 0-18 to 0-4 in Rathkeale. Despite frequent hail showers and a bitter wind, Patrickswell maintained their high standards and were relentless throughout the match. The opening five minutes were keenly contested, before Patrickswell began to gain the upper hand against their neighbours. With fifteen minutes on the clock, the ‘Well had established an 0-6 to 0-3 lead. The margin grew larger as our players dominated possession and fired over with great accuracy. At the half-time whistle, Patrickswell led by 0-11 to 0-4.
The second half commenced with another hail shower that battered the players. Adare were struggling with a few wides, but Patrickswell managed to find the target with most attempts. Diarmuid Byrnes (0-2), Jack Kelleher (0-3) and Cian Lynch (0-2) put a gloss on the result as Adare were held scoreless in the second half. The final group match is scheduled for Tuesday March 10 against Ballybrown in Rhebogue at 8pm.
Féile na nGael: The U-14 hurlers defeated visitors Templeglantine in the preliminary round of Limerick Féile na nGael. Unfortunately, the match was extremely one-sided as the ‘Well showcased their hurling talents. The highlight of the first half was an impressive hat-trick from John Kirby. At half-time, Patrickswell held a 5-10 to 0-0 advantage.
Templeglantine showed more attacking threat in the second half, but the Patrickswell boys were not willing to put on the brakes. Our defence battled impressively to secure a “clean sheet”, while the midfielders and forwards plundered another four goals. The final score was 9-13 to 0-0.
Camogie: The U-16 girls will play Croagh away on Friday March 13 at 6.00pm. Well done to all our County players, who lined out for Limerick over the weekend. This includes Sarah Gillane, Orla Harty, Leah O’Carroll, Ciara O’Brien, Ciara Barry, Jane Kirby and Aishling Leahy. U6/U8/U10 girls and boys will be returning to training shortly. New players are most welcome.

Despite the strong breeze, Patrickswell dominated their opponents from the first whistle. The ‘Well racked up five unanswered points before Kilmallock registered their first point. Jamie Dillon’s goal after twenty minutes made the scoreline an emphatic 1-9 to 0-1. After this goal, Kilmallock steadied themselves and Patrickswell reached half time with a 1-13 to 0-3 advantage.
The second half was a closer encounter. Kilmallock began to outpoint the ‘Well and reduced the large deficit. The margin had been trimmed to 1-18 to 0-13 when Paul O’Brien fired a late goal to cap a superb 2-18 to 0-13 win. Congratulations to the players and management.
The next fixture is against Adare on Tuesday March 3 in Rathkeale at 7.30pm.

Juvenile Club Annual General Meeting: The Juvenile AGM took place recently in the clubhouse. After many years’ loyal service, stalwarts Ray Fitzgerald and Pa Dundon have stepped down as Chairman and Secretary respectively. They will be replaced in 2015 by Mike Quinn and Peter Maher.
Pa Dundon delivered a brief Secretary’s Address to commend Ray Fitzgerald for his hard work as Chairman and thanked the various management teams for their cooperation.
Ray Fitzgerald delivered his final Chairman’s Address as Juvenile Club Chairman. He started out by giving a comprehensive summary of the team performances from Ages 6 to 16. The fundamentals of hurling are developed at the younger age levels before the teams enter formal competition at U-11/U-12 level. Ray was glowing of the coaching skills imparted to the younger players, which will permit them to succeed in later years. The Parish League was the highlight of the U-6 to U-10 age group, while the U-14s were unlucky to lose a Feile Final and a County Final.
Ray thanked the twenty coaches who made the club’s Summer Camp an immense success, before complimenting Muirne Bennis, Paula Griffin and Mary & Mike Shinnors for the Trojan work performed with the Scor na n-Og County Set Dancing champions. He congratulated the twelve club members that had represented Limerick at U-14, U-15 and U-16 levels, Brian Nolan for his All-Ireland Colleges Medal and John Flynn for winning a Harty Cup with Ard Scoil Ris.
Ray thanked his fellow officers, Pa Dundon and James McCarthy, for their constant support. He subsequently paid tribute to Breda Leahy (Chairwoman of the Camogie Club) and all the senior coaches throughout his tenure (Gary Kirby, Brian Lohan and Natal O’Grady) as well as the U-21 and Minor management teams. In addition, Ray acknowledged the endeavours of Paul Foley, Nelius Hayes and Martin Ryan for supporting him and establishing club infrastructure (gym and hurling wall) to the benefit of the club. He thanked current Chairman, Kieran Carroll, for the energy and enthusiasm that he has instilled over the past twelve months, especially on the fundraising side for the aforementioned infrastructural projects.
Ray welcomed the unwavering support that he has received from Seamus O’Riordan (Treasurer), Martin Ryan (Secretary), Michael Joyce (his predecessor as Chairman) and the boundless drive of Mary Gillane. He recognised the vital role that Patrickswell National School plays in club development and called out Principal Ciaran Crowe, Paul O’Connor, Dave Bulfin and Gary Kirby. Ger Downes and Gary Murphy were thanked for assisting with team development, while Paddy & Teresa Carrig were recognised for pitch bookings and the text messaging service.
Ray finished by hoping that Patrickswell would remain competitive and challenge for silverware. He thanked his family and welcomed his successor Mike Quinn to the role.
Senior Club Chairman Kieran Carroll congratulated Ray for a fantastic four years’ service and expressed his delight that Patrickswell were competing at top grade in every age profile. Kieran also thanked Pa Dundon for his combined coaching and secretarial duties, which he performed admirably. Kieran wished the new Chairman and Secretary the very best of luck.
The new Chairman, Mike Quinn, thanked Ray Fitzgerald and Pa Dundon for their commitment and efficiency over the past number of years. He promised to leverage from Ray’s wealth of experience to fulfil his duties as Chairman.
Team Management for Year 2015 were also ratified. U-15 & U-16 will be coached by Tom O’Brien, Natal O’Grady, Paul O’Grady and Kevin O’Brien. U-14 will be coached by Ray Fitzgerald, Pat Dundon, Barry Foley, Pa Lynch, Joe Murphy and Liam Quinlan. U-12 and U-13 will be coached by Dominic Harmon, Declan Gillane and John Gorman. U-10 will be trained by Pat Earls, Peter Maher, Pat Lynch, Ray Fitzgerald and Aedin Foley. U-8 will be coached by Anthony Foley, Mark Griffin, Dave Hennessy and Jackie Foley. U-6 will be trained by Michael Foley, Veronica Ryan and Marie Carroll.
Camogie: Congratulations to our U-16 girls that lined out for the Limerick Camogie team at the weekend. Limerick beat Waterford in their first round championship game. Well done!
U-14 training has resumed every Saturday from 6-7pm.

U-21 hurling: The U-21 hurlers made an excellent start to the Premier Championship, despite the foggy and cold conditions in Croagh. The ‘Well defeated Deel Rangers by 2-18 to 0-8 with a comprehensive performance. Their next fixture against Adare is scheduled for Tuesday February 17 at 7.30pm in Mick Neville Park (Rathkeale).
Juvenile Club AGM: The Juvenile Club AGM is taking place on Thursday February 12 at 9pm. Please make every effort to attend.
Membership clinics: There will be membership clinic(s) over the coming weeks. Players must register as soon as possible. Family membership is €80, adults are €45 and Under 18s are €25.

Waterford Crystal Cup: Congratulations to the Limerick hurlers, who claimed the Waterford Crystal Cup against Cork in Mallow. It was a great result that can hopefully act as a springboard to League and Championship success. We are especially proud of the Patrickswell contingent.
CPR and Defibrillator Training: If you wish to register for a CPR and Defibrillator session, please contact Kieran Carroll on 085-8667267. The registration fee is €5. All coaches and everyone involved with a team are encouraged to attend. It is very important that we have trained personnel for emergency situations.

Wall Ball Workshops: Wall Ball Workshops will visit Patrickswell GAA Club Grounds on Monday February 2nd between 7.00pm and 8.30pm. The workshops will demonstrate practical activities on how coaches can best utilise the wall for developing individual practices. The workshop is open to all coaches in the club.

Croke Park GAA Draw Tickets: Members are asked to return sold and unsold GAA National Draw tickets to Mary Gillane, Kieran Carroll or John McDermott at Gala by Tuesday January 20. The prizes on offer are excellent and 100% of sales are retained by the club!

Scór na nÓg: In the Munster semi-final, the Patrickswell Set Dancers did the club proud and were narrowly defeated by two very experienced teams from Clare and Kerry.
Paul Lynch, Lawrence Tuohy, Jack Foley, Lynsey Senior, Emma Ryan, Kelsey O’Shea, Tamara Murray and Róisín O’Brien gave their best performance to date. Congratulations to all those involved, especially Mary Shinners, Mike Shinners, Paula Dillon and Muirne Bennis. There is a very bright future for Set Dancing in Patrickswell.
The boys and girls danced magnificently and did everything they were asked. Patrickswell encountered two teams that have danced together for years. Kerry are the reigning All-Ireland champions, while the Patrickswell team have assembled in the past year.
