JUNIOR HURLERS: Patrickswell won the City Junior A Hurling League Final after a gritty win over Ballybrown. Liam Fitzgerald and Josh Carey had Patrickswell 0-2 to 0-1 ahead in the 5th minute, but we failed to score for another fifteen minutes. As a result, Ballybrown led by 0-5 to 0-2 after 20 minutes. A Hugh Maher point was followed by another two points from Liam Fitzgerald and the deficit was trimmed to 0-7 to 0-5. Near the end of the first half, Jordan Higgins found himself in oceans of space and finished his goal with conviction. Patrickswell were ahead by 1-5 to 0-7. However Ballybrown responded immediately and plundered a goal and two points to lead at the interval by 1-9 to 1-5.

Patrickswell chipped away at Ballybrown’s lead and found themselves only 1-11 to 1-9 behind on 45 minutes (Jordan Higgins, Dayle McDonagh, Hugh Maher and Liam Fitzgerald). We began to turn the screw when Liam Fitzgerald’s trio of points restored the Patrickswell lead. Ballybrown replied with two points and held a slender 1-13 to 1-12 lead to set up a tense final five minutes. Thankfully Patrickswell found an extra gear and overwhelmed our neighbours with four consecutive points (Jordan Higgins and Liam Fitzgerald 0-3). The final score was 1-16 to 1-13.

SENIOR HURLERS: The Senior hurlers bowed out of the City League after a semi-final defeat to Na Piarsaigh. The Light Blues had a ferocious start and scored two goals and five points within ten minutes to Patrickswell’s five points (Patrick Kirby 0-2, Kevin O’Brien, Mark Carmody and Eoin Harmon). A further flurry of four consecutive Na Piarsaigh points put our opponents ten points ahead, before Jason Gillane’s point stopped the charge at 2-9 to 0-6.

Na Piarsaigh’s third goal and another two points overshadowed Thomas O’Brien’s point. On the 20 minute mark, the deficit was thirteen points at 3-11 to 0-7. Five straight Patrickswell points from Patrick Kirby 0-4 and Mark Carmody triggered the fightback. Now eight points behind, Patrickswell crept even closer at half-time at 3-13 to 0-16 (Patrick Kirby 0-2, John Murray and Kevin O’Brien).

The first quarter of the second half was delicately balanced, with the team exchanging five points apiece (Patrick Kirby 0-3, Jordan Higgins and John Murray). Na Piarsaigh’s fourth goal seemed to settle the encounter by the 50th minute, with the Caherdavin side ahead by nine points at 4-20 to 0-23 (responses from Kevin O’Brien and Patrick Kirby). A point from Cian Gorman and a Josh Carey goal nudged Patrickswell within five points, but Na Piarsaigh eased themselves to 4-24 to 1-26 win (Patrick Kirby 0-2).

Both sides exchanged three points apiece (Liam Fitzgerald, Jordan Higgins and Thomas O’Brien) by the 20th minute as Patrickswell stayed 1-6 to 0-8 ahead. Mungret notched a flurry of four unanswered points in just five minutes to take a lead, but Jason Gillane and Mark Carmody ensured a minimal half-time deficit of 0-12 to 1-8.

At the start of the second half, the teams cancelled each other out with four points (Mark Carmody 0-2, Jordan Higgins and Liam Fitzgerald). In the 40th minute, Mungret led by 0-16 to 1-12. Patrickswell were buoyed by a Calvin Carroll point and Jason Gillane’s penalty goal and held a narrow 2-13 to 0-18 advantage in the 50th minute. Mungret responded with a goal and point, cementing a three-point margin of 1-19 to 2-13 with just five minutes left. Thankfully, Patrickswell rallied in the last five minutes to draw the game 2-16 to 1-19 thanks to Calvin Carroll and Dayle McDonagh’s brace.

JUNIOR HURLERS: Patrickswell produced a devastating performance to heavily defeat Claughaun in the City League. By the 15th minute, Patrickswell accrued six points without reply from Andrew Carroll, Liam Fitzgerald, Eoin Harmon 0-2, Kieran Long and Peter Harty. Amazingly, Claughaun failed to score a point in the first half and were reeling from Jonathan McMahon’s goal and three points plus additional scores from Eoin Harmon 0-2, Josh Carey and Billy Earls. Patrickswell led by 1-13 to 0-0 at half-time.

The rate of scoring in the second half slowed down. Liam Fitzgerald struck another point and Claughaun secured their first point in the 37th minute. More goals from Jordan Higgins and Thomas Nolan placed Patrickswell 3-14 to 0-1 ahead in the 45th minute. Claughaun put some fight into the last fifteen minutes, however Patrickswell won by 3-18 to 0-4 when Thomas Nolan 0-2, Peter Harty and Kieran Long produced late scores.

Mungret were tougher before half-time and Patrickswell reached the interval at 1-8 to 0-6 ahead (Andrew Carroll, Billy Earls and Dayle McDonagh).

Patrickswell were never threatened in the second half and led by 1-13 to 0-8 on 45 minutes (Dayle McDonagh, Kieran Long, Liam Fitzgerald, Andrew Carroll and Calvin Carroll). Patrickswell closed out the victory of 1-17 to 0-10 with late points from Peter Harty, Billy Earls, Kieran Long and Cian Enright.

The home match against Monaleen was decided by our visitors’ ability to hit the net. Monaleen notched a goal within two minutes, but Patrickswell had rallied to 1-3 to 0-3 after 15 minutes (Andrew Carroll 0-2 and Kieran Long). Patrickswell were in touching distance just before half-time after outpointing Monaleen by five points to four (Eoin Harmon 0-2, Andrew Carroll, Liam Fitzgerald and Josh Carey. Unfortunately a cruel blow was struck by Monaleen’s second goal. Patrickswell were 2-7 to 0-8 behind at the break.

At the start of the second half, Patrickswell were stunned by two goals and four points from Monaleen, which eclipsed four points from Liam Fitzgerald 0-2 and Calvin Carroll 0-2. We were adrift by 4-11 to 0-12 with twenty minutes left. Patrickswell struggled to eat into the deficit and still trailed by 4-15 to 0-17 by the 55th minute (Hugh Maher, Liam Fitzgerald 0-3 and Calvin Carroll). SENIOR HURLERS: The Senior hurlers secured a late win over Ballybrown in the City Senior League. Patrickswell levelled the score at 0-8 apiece on 40 minutes, thanks to Patrick Kirby, Billy Earls and Mark Carmody. Patrickswell were stunned when Ballybrown hit the net in the 59th minute, but Patrick Kirby quickly equalised at 0-16 to 1-13. Ballybrown crept ahead once again with a late point and seemed the likely winners, before Mark Carmody’s late goal decided the match as 1-16 to 1-14.
