JUNIOR CAMOGIE 12-A-SIDE FINAL: Patrickswell produced a strong finish to claim the Limerick 12-a-side county final. Kailey O’Donnell and Orla Harty gave Patrickswell an early lead, but Na Piarsaigh hit the front with a goal. While Orla Harty equalised, Na Piarsaigh reached half-time at 1-1 to 0-3 ahead.

At the start of the second half, Shannon Gillane’s point levelled the game, but Na Piarsaigh went 1-2 to 0-4 ahead. The crucial moment of the match was Gloria O’Donnell’s clever turn and fierce shot into the net. The ‘Well were now ahead by 1-4 to 1-2. Na Piarsaigh reduced the arrears to a single point, but there was no response to Orla Harty’s point and lobbed goal from distance. The ‘Well triumphed by 2-5 to 1-3.

UNDER 20 HURLERS: The U-20 hurlers bowed out of the County Championship after a defeat to Adare. The first fifteen minutes were tightly fought as Adare built a 1-3 to 1-2 lead. Dayle McDonagh scored the Patrickswell goal and added a point to Liam Fitzgerald’s opener. The next five minutes were dominated by Adare, whose five points outshone a sole Patrickswell point. The scoreline after twenty minutes was a deficit of 1-8 to 1-3. However  Patrickswell surprised Adare with a salvo of two goals from Harry McDonagh and Alan Fitzgerald and a brace of points from Billy Earls. In that spell, Adare failed to score and Patrickswell reached half-time at 3-5 to 1-8 ahead.

The second half started badly for Patrickswell as Adare scored their second goal and two points within five minutes. Thankfully, Dayle McDonagh and Christy Carroll’s points put Patrickswell level at 3-7 to 2-10 in the 35th minute. Adare struck two more points, but Paddy McGrath’s goal saw Patrickswell lead narrowly by 4-7 to 2-12 in the 40th minute. SENIOR HURLERS: Patrickswell bowed out of the championship with a semi-final defeat to Doon after a remarkable encounter. Doon made a lightning start and scored six points without reply in the first ten minutes. While Aaron Gillane notched our first point of the match, Doon were 0-10 to 0-1 ahead by the 15th minute. Aaron Gillane’s second point was overwhelmed by another Doon barrage of five consecutive points. To the amazement of the crowd, Doon were 0-15 to 0-2 ahead by the 20th minute and looked unstoppable. However, Patrickswell rallied strongly and pounded the East Men with a Patrick Kirby goal and four points from Aaron Gillane 0-2, Diarmaid Byrnes and Thomas O’Brien. Just before half-time, the large gap was trimmed to six points at 0-15 to 1-6. Despite Patrickswell having the momentum, Doon grabbed the final two points of the first half and led by 0-17 to 1-6.

Patrickswell were energetic at the start of the second half and profited from two points from Aaron Gillane and Patrick Kirby. The recovery was upset by the dismissal of Aaron Gillane. Despite the setback, a trio from Diarmaid Byrnes and another point from Evan Fitzgerald eroded the deficit to four points at 0-19 to 1-12. There were ten minutes left and a comeback was still possible. Unfortunately, Patrickswell were unable to score for another ten minutes and Doon plundered two points and two devastating goals to kill off the encounter. The game was beyond reach in the 58th minute at 2-21 to 1-12. While Kevin O’Brien bundled in a goal, Doon replied with three unanswered points to seal a 2-24 to 2-12 win.

JUNIOR A HURLERS: Patrickswell lost to Monaleen in the semi-final. The ‘Well trailed narrowly by 0-4 to 0-3 after fifteen minutes (Barry Carey and Calvin Carroll 0-2). Monaleen had a spell of domination and extended their lead to 0-8 to 0-4 by the 20th minute. Barry Foley’s goal put Patrickswell in touching distance, but an immediate goal and point from Monaleen increased their lead to five points. Calvin Carroll’s brace on the cusp of half-time made the arrears 1-9 to 1-6.

Patrickswell made a terrible start to the second half by conceding a goal almost immediately. However, five points via Calvin Carroll 0-2, Shane Hannon, Barry Foley and Billy Earls kept Patrickswell in the hunt at 2-11 to 1-11 on 45 minutes. A devastating third goal from Monaleen seemed to decide the match, but Patrickswell still had a great chance on 55 minutes at 3-12 to 1-14 adrift (Billy Earls and Calvin Carroll 0-2). Monaleen found an extra gear and scored two points to open a six-point lead at the beginning of injury time. The game was put to bed when Monaleen claimed two goals in two minutes. The final score was a 5-14 to 1-14 reverse.

SENIOR HURLERS: Patrickswell overcame a stern test from Monaleen to reach the County Championship semi-final. The ‘Well made a good start and found ourselves 0-3 to 0-1 ahead after five minutes (Kevin O’Brien, Aaron Gillane and Thomas O’Brien). However Monaleen responded with six unanswered points in six minutes to roar 0-7 to 0-3 ahead. A reaction was required and Patrickswell dominated the following ten minutes to cut the deficit to 0-9 to 0-7 in the 25th minute, thanks to Patrick Kirby 0-2, Aaron Gillane and Diarmaid Byrnes. Despite playing into the breeze, we reached the interval with a 0-11 to 0-10 lead after Aaron Gillane struck three points and Kevin O’Brien scored the other.

The opening ten minutes of the second half saw an exchange of three points apiece (Patrick Kirby, Aaron Gillane and Diarmaid Byrnes) to establish a scoreline of 0-14 to 0-13. Monaleen dominated until the 50th minute and they found themselves 0-17 to 0-15 ahead in the closing stages. Two points in a single minute from Mark Carmody seemed to deflate Monaleen as Patrickswell equalised at 0-17 all. Cian Lynch, Diarmaid Byrnes and Evan Fitzgerald put a further squeeze on Monaleen. As the match entered injury time, we were 0-20 to 0-17 ahead. Monaleen tried from a goal, but claimed only one point to ensure a Patrickswell victory. On Sunday October 13 at 1.00pm, Patrickswell face Doon in Kilmallock. Tickets must be purchased in advance on the Limerick GAA website.

JUNIOR A HURLERS: Patrickswell edged past Claughaun in the County Championship quarter-final on a rain-soaked afternoon. The pace of scoring in the first half was low, with Calvin Carroll’s four frees opening up a 0-4 to 0-3 lead by the 20th minute. Claughaun held Patrickswell scoreless for twelve minutes and went ahead by 0-6 to 0-4. There was plenty of action on the stroke of half-time as Shane Hannon scored a goal from close range and Calvin Carroll & Liam Fitzgerald added points. The ‘Well led by 1-6 to 0-7 at the break.

Once again, the first 15 minutes of the second half yielded few scores. Billy Earls, Calvin Carroll and Peter Harty notched points, but Claughaun closed the deficit to 1-9 to 0-11. Peter Harty’s goal gave Patrickswell some breathing space, but Claughaun were still only 2-9 to 0-13 behind with five minutes left. All nerves were settled when Patrickswell steamed ahead with six consecutive points in six minutes from Calvin Carroll 0-2, Peter Harty 0-2, David Woulfe and Shane Hannon. The result was a 2-15 to 0-13 win. The semi-final is against Monaleen in Rathbane on Saturday October 12 at 4.00pm. Tickets must be purchased in advance on the Limerick GAA website.
