SENIOR HURLERS: Patrickswell were edged out by a late Ballybrown surge in the County Hurling Championship. The game began positively for the ‘Well as Thomas O’Brien hit the net in the 3rd minute after a confident run. His goal was supplemented by points from Mark Carmody, Jack Kelleher and Cian Fitzgerald. The pace of scoring was relatively low and the scoreline was only 1-3 to 0-3 after 15 minutes. Ballybrown equalised with a trio of unanswered points, before Cian Lynch and Jack Kelleher cancelled out more Ballybrown points. The interval score was tied at 1-5 to 0-8.

In the early stages of the second half, our neighbours emerged strongly and notched four points to surpass Cian Fitzgerald’s point. In the 38th minute, Diarmaid Byrnes took a brave step to smash home a goal when a point seemed the safer bet. Patrickswell were now level again at 2-6 to 0-12. Cian Lynch and Kevin O’Brien kept the teams inseparable at 2-8 to 0-14 to set up an unpredictable last ten minutes. Ballybrown’s goal in the 51st minutes was a devastating blow to Patrickswell. While Patrick Kirby scored a point, Ballybrown added four insurance points before the final whistle. The result was a 1-18 to 2-9 reverse.
