SENIOR HURLERS: Patrickswell’s interest in the County League ended with defeat against Na Piarsaigh away. We started positively as Jason Gillane and Patrick Kirby scored from play to create a minor deficit of 0-3 to 0-2. The next five minutes were torrid as our hosts scored two goals and four points in contrast to Jason Gillane’s free. Patrickswell trailed by 2-7 to 0-3 in the 15th minute. The remainder of the first half was edged by Patrickswell. Jason Gillane notched five points and Patrick Kirby & Kevin O’Brien added one point apiece. The interval scoreline was 2-12 to 0-10.

The opening stages of the second half witnessed a third Na Piarsaigh goal as they surged twelve points ahead at 3-15 to 0-12 (Jason Gillane and Andrew Carroll). Patrickswell forced its way back into the fixture with a profitable spell that yielded six points from Hugh Maher 0-3, Jason Gillane 0-2 and John Kirby. We now trailed by seven points at 3-16 to 0-18. A minor fightback brought the gap down to five points as Jason Gillane 0-3, Eoin Harmon 0-2 and Kevin O’Brien made the scoreline 3-20 to 0-24. Alas, Na Piarsaigh stole a fourth goal on the stroke of full-time.

JUNIOR HURLERS: The Junior hurlers exited the County League following defeat at Ballybrown. The match was keenly contested as both teams scored a goal and four points in the first quarter on a hot evening. Patrickswell’s goal came from Paudie Maher and our points were scored by Kieran Long, Andrew Carroll, Paudie Maher and John Long. Ballybrown shaded the remainder of the first half and were 1-9 to 1-8 ahead at the break (Liam Fitzgerald 0-2, Jonathan McMahon and Josh Carey).

Patrickswell were energetic at the start of the second half and established a 1-12 to 1-10 lead quickly (Andrew Carroll 0-2, Liam Fitzgerald and Conor Robinson). Unfortunately Ballybrown plundered two goals in quick succession and raced 3-12 to 1-15 ahead (Liam Fitzgerald, Rory Foley and Andrew Carroll). Into the final five minutes, Patrickswell were still three points behind at 3-14 to 1-17 (Rory Foley and Liam Fitzgerald). The game faded out of reach when Ballybrown nabbed their fourth goal. However, Liam Fitzgerald’s trio of points set up a grandstand finale at 4-14 to 1-20. The goal did not materialise and Ballybrown secured a late insurance point. Patrickswell awarded a walkover to Bruff as our chances of a League Final were dashed.

JUNIOR FOOTBALLERS: Patrickswell gave a great account of themselves in the League Final against a strong Glin side. Paddy Gardiner and Briain Og O’Sullivan cancelled out Glin points, before the West Men grabbed a goal. The same combination of Briain Og O’Sullivan and Paddy Gardiner matched Glin’s next two points. Trailing 1-4 to 0-4, David Woulfe acted quickly and hit the net for Patrickswell. Jack McNamara’s points was sandwiched between two Glin points. The half-time score was a narrow disadvantage of 1-6 to 1-5.

Glin dominated the start of the second half and hit four points without reply. Paul O’Brien and David Woulfe trimmed the deficit to 1-11 to 1-7 and Patrickswell had a chance. Alas, Glin sealed their victory with a late second goal.
