SENIOR HURLERS: Patrickswell survived a stiff test from Ahane in the County League. The teams were inseparable after twenty minutes as six points apiece were exchanged (John Murray 0-2, Jason Gillane 0-3 and Kevin O’Brien). Ahane scored the first goal of the fixture, but Jason Gillane cancelled this out with a conbined 65′, free and a point from play. The first half ended level at 0-10 to 1-7 as a result of another Jason Gillane free.
Patrickswell were clinical at the start of the second half as they notched seven unanswered points from John Kirby 0-2, Jason Gillane 0-4 and John Murray. Ahane halted their decline and edged back into the match with five points to Jason Gillane’s free. There were five minutes left an Patrickswell were just 0-18 to 1-12 ahead. The game was secured by a late Dayle McDonagh goal, which allowed Patrickswell to win by 1-18 to 1-14. The final group match is away to Na Piarsaigh on Thursday May 28 at 7.30pm.
JUNIOR HURLERS: The Junior hurlers eased past Rathkeale to keep themselves in contention near the top of the league table. Patrickswell were ahead by a goal from Rory Foley and two points from Liam Fitzgerald within five minutes. Rathkeale replied with two points, but Patrickswell notched three straight points from Liam Fitzgerald, Conor Robinson and Rory Foley. The scoreline in the middle of the first half was 1-5 to 0-2. The teams traded five points each (Liam Fitzgerald 0-4 and Gavin Carey) as we reached the interval 1-10 to 0-7 ahead.
Rathkeale enjoyed a slight advantage at the start of the second half and trimmed the deficit to four points at 1-13 to 1-9 (Peter Harty 0-2 and Liam Fitzgerald). However, Patrickswell roared on with a goal from Andrew Carroll and five points (Peter Harty 0-2, Dayle McDonagh 0-2 and Liam Fitzgerald). The result was a 2-18 to 1-9 win. There are two fixtures scheduled for this week – away to Ballybrown on Monday May 25 at 7.30pm and away to Bruff on Sunday May 31 at 7.30pm.
JUNIOR FOOTBALLERS: Patrickswell face Glin in a League Final on Tuesday May 26 at 7.15pm in Cappagh.
INTER-COUNTY HURLERS: Congratulations to Limerick and its Patrickswell contingent for defeating Tipperary in the Munster Hurling Championship and reaching another Munster Final.
