SENIOR HURLERS: Patrickswell defeated neighbours Ballybrown to maintain a 100% record in the County League. Playing with a favourable breeze, we were 0-3 to 0-1 ahead after ten minutes (Jason Gillane 0-2 and Patrick Kirby). Ballybrown equalised shortly afterwards, but Cian Fitzgerald and Kevin O’Brien restored the two-point cushion of 0-5 to 0-3. We increased our advantage to 0-9 to 0-5 when Jason Gillane notched three points and John Kirby chipped in. Unfortunately Ballybrown dominated the closing stages of the first half. They scored three unanswered points and trimmed our lead to 0-9 to 0-8.

The early stages of the second half were keenly contested. Points from Dayle McDonagh, Kevin O’Brien and Jason Gillane were matched by Ballybrown. Then our hosts fired over two points to establish a 0-13 to 0-12 lead. Patrickswell responded with a flurry of five consecutive points from Jason Gillane 0-3, Kevin O’Brien and Hugh Maher. At 0-17 to 0-13 ahead, the match was intense. Ballybrown’s next point was eclipsed by a moment of inspiration by Josh Carey. A long ball dropped at Josh’s feet about 20 yards out. Josh spotted the Ballybrown goalkeeper advancing quickly and he kicked the sliotar powerfully into net from long range. Patrickswell were 1-17 to 0-14 ahead and we closed out the match with points from Patrick Kirby, Rory Foley and Jason Gillane to secure a 1-20 to 0-16 win. The next scheduled match is a trip to Adare on Saturday April 18 at 7.00pm.

JUNIOR HURLERS: The Junior hurlers are slated to play Garryspillane away in Knocklong on Sunday April 19 at 7.00pm.

JUNIOR FOOTBALLERS: Patrickswell’s depleted team lost to Glin away, but responded with a fine win at home to Camogue Rovers. Some quick-fire goals from Paul O’Brien and Paddy Gardiner put the ‘Well 2-1 to 0-2 ahead after ten minutes. The next three points were scored by Camogue Rovers, but Patrickswell dominated the remainder of the half to lead by 2-5 to 0-6 (David Woulfe 0-2 and Paul O’Brien 0-2).

The second half started with Patrickswell growing our lead to seven points at 2-8 to 0-7 thanks to Briain Og O’Sullivan 0-2 and Paul O’Brien. Camogue Rovers battled back to score four unanswered points, but Patrickswell triumphed by 2-8 to 0-11.

CAMOGIE: Patrickswell’s Feile team performed superbly in Croagh despite the poor weather conditions. In the group stages, we defeated Adare, Templeglantine/Tournafulla and Blackrock Effin – while losing to Kildimo-Pallaskenry. Our second place finish was rewarded with a semi-final against Croagh Kilfinny. After a long day of camogie, the hosts edged out Patrickswell. Hard luck girls and management.
