SENIOR HURLERS: Patrickswell suffered late defeat in their second Championship match against Mungret. The Reds scored the first three points of the match before Patrick Kirby registered our first point. Mungret’s opening goal established a five-point lead, but Patrickswell edged the next ten minutes. A trio of points from Jason Gillane and a John Kirby point trimmed the deficit to 1-6 to 0-5. Three consecutive points from Jason Gillane 0-2 and Diarmaid Byrnes ensured minimal arrears, but Mungret nabbed two points to lead by 1-8 to 0-8. Our opponents enjoyed the latter stages of the first half, when their five points eclipsed three Patrickswell points (Jason Gillane 0-2 and Cian Lynch). The interval score was 1-13 to 0-11 in Mungret’s favour.

Patrickswell had an excellent start to the second half and blitzed Mungret with six straight points (Jason Gillane 0-2, John Kirby 0-2, Aaron Gillane and Liam Fitzgerald). We were now ahead for the first time, but Mungret retorted with three points on the trot. With ten minutes left, we trailed by 1-16 to 0-17. Three more points from Jason Gillane and another from Hugh Maher closed the gap at 1-19 to 0-21. In a grandstand finale, Mungret broke Patrickswell hearts with a late goal that we couldn’t respond to. The outcome was a 2-19 to 0-21 reverse.

JUNIOR B HURLERS: The Junior B hurlers earned a draw against heavily fancied Staker Wallace, even though we were ahead by ten points. Patrickswell led by 0-5 to 0-1 within fifteen minutes (Kieran Long, Peter Harty 0-2, Dayle McDonagh and Paddy Gardiner). Despite two points from Rory Foley, Staker Wallace crept into the contest and Patrickswell led by only 0-7 to 0-6 at half-time.

Staker Wallace equalised with a point at the start of the second half, but they were stunned when Dayle McDonagh scored two goals in a minute, followed by a Darragh Ahern point. Our opponents replied with a point, but Dayle McDonagh completed his hat trick with a penalty and Peter Harty added a point. Patrickswell were ten points ahead at 3-9 to 0-8. Our reduction to 14 men was a pivotal moment in the match. Staker Wallace scored a goal and three points to Peter Harty’s brace and slashed the margin to 3-11 to 1-11. As Patrickswell hung on, our opponents surged forward and secured a crushing second goal and three consecutive points to equalise. On the cusp of injury time, the scores were level at 3-11 to 2-14. Neither side managed to break the deadlock and a draw was earned.

JUNIOR C HURLERS: Patrickswell lost away to a strong St. Kieran’s side on a gloomy night. Our hosts raced into a 2-3 to 0-1 lead, before we responded with a penalty goal and two points. By half-time, Patrickswell trailed by 2-4 to 1-4.

The second half was a struggle and Patrickswell were under the cosh. St. Kieran’s ran out 4-15 to 2-5 winners.
