SENIOR HURLERS: Patrickswell recovered from a slow start to maintain a 100% record in the County League against Adare. Within ten minutes, Patrickswell were 0-7 to 0-2 behind (Patrick Kirby and Liam Fitzgerald). The game transformed when the ‘Well experienced a purple patch that yielded two goals and four points to a solitary Adare score. Rory Foley bundled home our first goal before Jason Gillane rifled home a blistering second goal. The other points were contributed by Patrick Kirby 0-2 and Jason Gillane 0-2. After 25 minutes, Patrickswell led by 2-6 to 0-8. Adare scored three consecutive points before Jason Gillane concluded the first half with a point. The interval scoreline was 2-7 to 0-11.
The first segment of the second half was finely balanced as the teams scored six points apiece (Jason Gillane 0-4, Hugh Maher and John Kirby). The game swung in Patrickswell’s favour with a barrage of five unanswered points from Liam Fitzgerald, Jason Gillane 0-3 and Hugh Maher. Patrickswell were now comfortably 2-18 to 0-17 ahead. The remainder of the match was level pegging as both teams were content with three more points (Patrick Kirby and Jason Gillane 0-2). Declan O’Grady’s men earned a valuable 2-21 to 0-20 win.
JUNIOR HURLERS: The Junior hurlers earned a solid win away to Garryspillane. Patrickswell began the match at a whirlwind pace which delivered six unanswered points (Peter Harty 0-2, Kieran Long, Liam Fitzgerald, Nigel Foley and Paudie Maher). Nigel Foley’s clever lobbed goal and further points from Liam Fitzgerald & Peter Harty created a sizeable 1-8 to 0-3 lead after twenty minutes. This lead evaporated within five minutes when Garryspillane stunned Patrickswell with two goals and a point. The nerves were steadied when Josh Carey grabbed a goal on the stroke of half-time to build a 2-8 to 2-4 advantage.
The early stages of the second half saw an exchange of three points apiece (Dayle McDonagh, Liam Fitzgerald and Peter Harty). John Long’s goal and additional points from Liam Fitzgerald and Nigel Foley established a nine-point lead of 3-13 to 2-7. Garryspillane responded with a goal and a point to cause concern. However Patrickswell finished strongly with points from Dayle McDonagh, Liam Fitzgerald, Nigel Foley, Peter Harty and Tom Nolan to ensure a 3-18 to 3-9 triumph. Their next scheduled match is away to Ballybricken Bohermore on Saturday April 25 at 7.00pm.
FEILE HURLING: Patrickswell were desperately unlucky to leave Feile 2026 empty-handed. The boys lost to a late goal in the opener against Newcastle West. History repeated itself in the second match as Granagh Ballingarry snatched a late winner to break Patrickswell hearts once again. Following a car journey to Adare for a 9.45pm start, the host club proved too strong for a battling ‘Well. Hard luck to the players and management. With a slice of luck the outcome would have been so different.
CAMOGIE: The Camogie Club had a mixed week as the Junior ladies defeated Knockaderry, but the Senior ladies, Minor girls and U-14 girls lost their respective games.
