SENIOR HURLERS: Patrickswell’s impressive second half performance ensured victory over Ahane and a guaranteed quarter-final berth. Ahane made a perfect start with a goal after twenty seconds. Patrickswell were level after ten minutes, thanks to Patrick Kirby’s goal and points from Diarmaid Byrnes 0-2 and Patrick Kirby again. Ahane claimed three successive points, before Patrick Kirby and Jack Kelleher answered back. In the 18th minute, Patrickswell trailed by 1-6 to 1-5. Unfortunately the ‘Well couldn’t score in the remainder of the first half, while Ahane enjoyed six more points. The interval score was a deficit of 1-12 to 1-5.

Patrickswell dominated the first ten minutes of the second half and cut the arrears to three points at 1-14 to 1-11 (Jack Kelleher 0-3, Cian Lynch, Diarmaid Byrnes and Patrick Kirby). By this point, Patrickswell were in control. In the 50th minute, we trailed by 1-16 to 1-14 as a result of Jack Kelleher, Diarmaid Byrnes and Evan Fitzgerald points. There was a sense of belief that the game could be won. Over the next seven minutes, Patrickswell notched five points from different scorers and took the lead for the first time – due to Nigel Foley, Kevin O’Brien, Diarmaid Byrnes, Evan Fitzgerald and Patrick Kirby. Ahane struck the final point of an epic contest, but Patrickswell won by 1-19 to 1-17. The final group match against Kilmallock is on Sunday September 22 at 4.00pm in Mick Neville Park Rathkeale. Tickets must be purchased in advance on the Limerick GAA website.

JUNIOR A HURLERS: The Junior A team face Garryspillane on Saturday September 21 at 5.30pm in Ballybricken Bohermore. Tickets must be purchased in advance on the Limerick GAA website.

MINOR HURLERS: Patrickswell beat Killacolla Gaels in a playoff match to reach the Championship semi-final. We trailed after ten minutes due to a nervy start by 0-5 to 0-2 (Rory Foley and John Murray). Eventually Patrickswell settled into the encounter and profited from five straight points from Ryan Foley 0-3, Rory Foley and Dayle McDonagh. Ryan Foley’s neat goal and two more points ensured that Patrickswell were 1-9 to 0-8 ahead by half-time.

Killacolla Gaels scored three quick-fire points at the start of the second half, but John Murray scored a goal to frustrate our rivals. By the 42nd minute, the scoreline was tight at 2-10 to 0-14. Thankfully Patrickswell hurled impressively and claimed five points in seven minutes from Dayle McDonagh 0-2, John Murray 0-2 and Cathal Fitzgerald. With ten minutes left, the advantage had grown to 2-15 to 0-16. The game ended as a contest with another salvo of five points in seven minutes (Dayle McDonagh 0-2, Ryan Foley, Eoin Hennessy and John Murray). We were now ten points ahead at 2-20 to 0-16. Killacolla Gaels created some jitters with a late goal, but Patrickswell emerged winners by 2-20 to 1-16.

CLUB LOTTO: The Club Lotto draw on Monday September 9 was not won. The numbers drawn were 9, 15, 16 and 28. The bonus number was 20. The €50 Lucky Dips were won by Mia Carroll and Joe Mongan, while the €20 prizes were claimed by Noah Lynch, Eithne Ryan, Anne O’Doherty, Tom & Evelyn O’Brien, Richard Maher and Sheila Hedderman. This week’s jackpot is €14,000.
