JUNIOR B HURLERS: The Junior B hurlers season came to an end after defeat to Kildimo-Pallaskenry in the City Championship semi-final. Despite Sam McNamara and Aidan Scanlon putting the ‘Well ahead by 0-2 to 0-1 after ten minutes, Kildimo-Pallaskenry outscored the hosts by nine points to one point across the remainder of the first half. The interval scoreline was 0-10 to 0-3.
The first fifteen minutes of the second half were keenly contested as Patrickswell cancelled out the visitors with three points apiece (William O’Dea 0-2 and Sam McNamara). Heading into the final quarter, Patrickswell remained seven points adrift at 0-13 to 0-6. Des Foley’s point was countered and Patrickswell reached the 57th minute still behind by seven points. When a penalty was awarded, Des Foley smashed the sliotar through the packed Kildimo-Pallaskenry defensive line. Patrickswell were now four points behind, but the visitors secured another point to move five points ahead. In the 60th minute, Paul O’Brien scored a close-range goal to rattle Kildimo-Pallaskenry and breathe new hope into the ‘Well. Unfortunately, the visitors notched an insurance point to move 0-16 to 2-7 ahead. In the depths of stoppage time, Des Foley’s ferocious shot rattled the goal frame and spun agonisingly away. The final whistle sounded and Patrickswell were short.
