MINOR HURLERS: The Minor hurlers produced a remarkable performance to win their epic hurling championship final on penalties against Adare. Our opponents started strongly and led by 0-9 to 0-5 within fifteen minutes (Ryan Foley 0-2, Rory Foley, Dayle McDonagh and John Murray). However, the remainder of the first half was dominated by Patrickswell as Adare didn’t score and the ‘Well scored five points (Eoin Hennessy 0-3, Dayle McDonagh and Ryan Foley). The interval score was a narrow 0-10 to 0-9 advantage.
After ten minutes of the second half, the sides were level. Eoin Hennessy added a trio of points to respond to Adare’s four points. The scoreline after 40 minutes was 0-13 apiece. Adare scored three unanswered points and led by 0-16 to 0-13 with ten minutes left. The pendulum swung back towards Patrickswell with a flurry of four consecutive points (Ryan Foley 0-3 and Rory Foley). With a minute of normal time left, Adare grabbed an equaliser to force extra time at 0-17 apiece.
There were tired legs as the boys readied themselves for extra time. Patrickswell shaded the first period and led by 0-20 to 0-19, thanks to Eoin Hennessy, John Murray and Ryan Foley. Adare had one hand on the trophy with two points, but late points from John Murray and Dayle McDonagh seemed to have won the match. Unfortunately Adare took full advantage of a late free to force penalties at 0-22 apiece. Adare scored the first penalty and John Murray replied. From there on, goalkeeper Johnny Murray denied Adare three times in a row, while Eoin Hennessy and Ryan Foley sealed a glorious victory.
