SENIOR HURLERS: Patrickswell lost out to Kilmallock in the final group match. Kevin O’Brien scored a point in the opening minute, but Kilmallock fired back with four consecutive points. Diarmaid Byrnes notched a point to make the scoreline 0-4 to 0-2 after ten minutes. Over the next ten minutes, Kilmallock outscored Patrickswell by five points to two points (Jack Kelleher 0-2) and thus extended their lead to 0-9 to 0-4. It was nip and tuck up until the 29th minute, with three points apiece traded (Jack Kelleher 0-2 and Diarmaid Byrnes). By stoppage time, we trailed by 0-12 to 0-7. A surge from Patrickswell just before the interval cut the deficit to three points at 0-13 to 0-10 thanks to Jason Gillane, Diarmaid Byrnes and Kevin O’Brien.
The opening ten minutes of the second half witnessed a Kilmallock surge as five points without reply were accrued. The ‘Well were now 0-18 to 0-10 adrift. A trio of points from Patrick Kirby and a point from Kevin O’Brien made the scoreline 0-19 to 0-14 by the 50th minute. The Balbec were in good shape by the 60th minute with a 0-23 to 0-16 lead (Diarmaid Byrnes and Eoin Harmon), but a Gavin Carey goal added some doubts. The final score was a 0-23 to 1-16 reverse.
JUNIOR A HURLERS: The Junior A hurlers earned a vital draw against Garryspillane to reach the knockout stages of the Championship. By the tenth minute, Patrickswell had opened a 0-5 to 0-4 lead via Kieran Long, Calvin Carroll 0-2, Billy Earls and Gavin Carey. The lead was stretched to eight points when Kieran Long & Liam Fitzgerald scored goals and Calvin Carroll added two points. We were 2-7 to 0-5 ahead after 25 minutes. The end of the first half was eventful as Garryspillane scored two goals in four minutes to stun Patrickswell, but Shane Hannon responded with a goal of his own. The half-time score was 3-8 to 2-6 to Patrickswell.
The first fifteen minutes of the second half saw Garryspillane close in. Their third goal and three points were countered by three Patrickswell points (Billy Earls and Calvin Carroll 0-2). The match was on a knife edge at 3-11 to 3-9. Calvin Carroll’s brace was matched by Garryspillane and the 55th minute score was 3-13 to 3-11. The Bouncer’s fourth goal gave them a brief lead but Calvin Carroll equalised at 3-14 to 4-11. Deep in injury time, Garryspillane went ahead with a point. With a final desperate throw of the dice, Josh Carey kept his nerve and scored the equalising point. A draw of 3-15 to 4-12 was enough to secure Patrickswell’s progress.
MINOR HURLERS: Best of luck to our minor hurlers versus Adare in the County Minor B Hurling Championship Final on Saturday 28/9 at 2.00pm in FEDAMORE. Tickets must be purchased in advance on the Limerick GAA website.
CAMOGIE: On Sunday September 29, Patrickswell contest an Intermediate Cup semi-final against Granagh Ballingarry in Patrickswell at 11am. There is an entry fee of €10 Adults.and €5 students/OAPS.
CLUB LOTTO: The Club Lotto draw on Monday September 12 was not won. The numbers drawn were 5, 13, 27 and 31. The bonus number was 9. The €50 Lucky Dips were won by Kiara Quinn and Mary Carroll, while the €20 prizes were claimed by Joan Hickey, Richie Bennis, Jenny Cleary, Pat Purcell, Mary Gleeson and Jim Mulqueen. This week’s jackpot is €14,200.
