Roll of Honour
Tribute to 2006 Champions
By Christy Murphy
In 2006 our camogie girls realised a dream,
With Paula Dillon’s splendid team.
They took the championship by storm,
Showing grit style and superb form,
Blessed with a very sound defence’
And a forward line that played with sense.
Each girl on the field showed heart,
Every panel member played her part.
Louise Foley started at number one,
She hit the ball a mile for fun.
What about young Sarah Moroney,
Played every role including goalie,
Aoife Geoghegan great at corner back,
Heart and skill she did not lack.
Our number four was quick and Wiley,
Never beaten was the flying Jessie Kiely.
Now our captain was Paula Dillon,
At full back she was one in a million.
She controlled the area around the square,
Clearing every ball on the ground or in the air.
Young Sarah Carey was the dion of centre backs,
Covering, defending and setting up attacks.
Here’s to our wing backs Aedin and Caroline,
Whose hurling prowess was just divine.
Christine and Maureen covered every blade of grass,
Running, striking, passing, oh! What class.
Gloria led the attack with fire and spirit,
Her never say die deserving merit.
Julie D’Arcy played her finest game,
That long range point has got her fame.
Sinead and Mairead showed their speed around the field
Against the best they would not yield.
Niamh Geoghegan commanding the square,
Her all round strength and skills so rare.
Lisa Kelleher played at top of the right,
At scoring points she was adroit.
Deirdre deserves much acclaim,
For one so new, she is ~ some dame.
Injured Linda represents the spirit of the team,
She deserves every honour it would seem.
Our coach and manage PJ, you are the best,
Miles ahead of Cody, Loughnane and all the rest.
Here’s to Neilie, Christy and faithful Rose,
Who’s surely helped to keep you all on your toes.
To all who togged out throughout the year,
You are remembered please don’t fear.
And to our supporters, Bridget, Christine and all,
Thank you for everything, we had a ball!!!!
Here’s to all who played hard and haven’t won,
Please know you have helped create this our day in the sun.
Finally congratulations to all new arrivals here and on the way,
May you grow up to be part of many such a great day.
