Féile County Champions 2008

Played in Bruff on Sat., 26/04/08

Patrickswell 1-07; Adare 1-05

Match report courtesy of James McCarthy, club PRO:

In the Féile County Final, the Under 14 hurlers produced a determined performance to defeat a much-fancied Adare side. Cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd, the ‘Well started strongly and took charge in key areas of the pitch. However, the first half could not produce a decisive goal as both defences held firm. Patrickswell claimed a four-point advantage with accurate shooting, while limiting Adare to a single point. The half-time score was 0-5 to 0-1.

Our opponents responded with a committed second half performance. They scored a point in the early stages, but the ‘Well replied with a goal to stun Adare. Holding a six-point lead, it seemed that Patrickswell had one hand on the trophy. However, Adare refused to concede defeat and scored a goal to heighten the excitement and tension. As Adare pushed for an equaliser, Patrickswell absorbed the pressure. A late point by the ‘Well was critical to halt Adare’s fightback. At the final whistle, the Blue and Gold had triumphed by 1-7 to 1-5. The boys had added the County Féile title to its City equivalent. The club would like to congratulate the boys for this magnificent achievement and their dedication to hurling. This team is the foundation stone for success in the years to follow. The selectors should also receive the plaudits for such tireless enthusiasm in the pursuit of excellence. A special thanks to Duggans for their generous sponsorship of the club. The next stop for the Under 14s is June’s All-Ireland Féile in Offaly. Let’s hope that the boys will capture this title and cement the reputation of Patrickswell GAA club.
